From Principal Kennedy
Often in my conversations with students regarding about social media, one thing students say is that they wish it is was more positive. The only way for that to change is if users of social media make a effort to not say anything negative about social media, even is someone else does.
As adults, think about the interactions you have on social media, blogs, etc. Does saying negative things about anyone help resolve any issues? Modeling for our students to have conversations with others working to solve the problem rather than adding to the negativity can change perspective, increase advocacy, and make changes beyond ourselves.
Another common question I ask students is "Did you block them?" Many of them answer, "No." This may surprise some of you like it does me. Many students are worried if they block someone they are going to miss out on something. In my conversations with students, I ask, "What are you going to miss out on?" After a few moments, many come to the conclusion that what they will miss out on is negativity. It is an ah ha moment for students. Again, this is a way to empower our students that they do have control over who they interact with and read on social media. By blocking others, they are advocating for themselves and what type of perspectives they want to surround themselves with. When we were growing up, we had to learn who were "real" friends. The same goes for our students in real life and on social media.
As someone who is here or there on social media myself (I didn't get my first Facebook account till I moved here), I do follow Officer Gomez on his social media accounts. The image below is from his accounts. He has various advice, information, updates on technology, etc. that many of his followers find help. You may as well.

Communication with Teachers
There are various ways to communication with our teachers. The easiest is by email as teachers are teaching throughout the day. Through email, you are able to ask teachers to call you or arrange a time to follow up. You can also call the WMS Main Office. Mrs. Lighter, WMS Administrative Assistant, will take a message and pass it along to the teacher.
We encourage parents and teachers to communicate with each other!
