RCS STUDENT-ATHLETES WRAP UP ANOTHER UNFORGETTABLE SEASON
District Recap: Spring 2024 Sports Season
The spring athletic season never disappoints! With 191 student-athletes participating, they worked hard to represent RCS with integrity and pride!
“I could not be more proud of how the season went,” said the Director of Athletics, Physical Education, Health & Wellness, Ms. Murphy. “Watching teams throughout the season showed me how much each team grew with each passing week.”
A big thank you goes to the coaches, parents, caregivers, staff, chaperones, transportation team, and most notably, our student-athletes for an exciting season! Each of you plays an important role in supporting and improving our athletic program, and it is greatly appreciated!
Congratulations again to our teams on a job well done! Here is a wrap-up of each sport.
Boys Baseball
The Varsity Baseball Team had an impressive run! Led by 9 seniors: Wyatt Algozzine, Thomas Burns, Riley Kellam, Logan Krause, Johnny Lake, Jack McFerran, Nikolas Plakas, Eddie Reville, and Austin Rosado, they worked hard throughout the season to improve and shine on the field. The team finished with a 9-4 Colonial Council league record and a 13-7-1 overall record. The team had notable wins against Voorheesville, Schalmont, & Albany Academy, in addition to a 11-0 sectional win against Hudson Falls.
The following athletes were selected as Colonial Council All-Stars:
1st Team - Jack McFerran.
2nd Team - Logan Krause, Riley Kellam, and Alex Halwick.
Honorable Mention - Wyatt Algozzine and Thomas Burns.
At athletic awards night, Jack McFerran was named as the team’s Most Valuable Player (MVP) and Thomas Burns was named as the Most Improved Player (MIP).
Congratulations to the team on a terrific season and best of luck seniors!
Girls Softball
This spring, the Girls Varsity Softball Team was recognized as a New York State Public High School Athletic Association (NYSPHSAA) Scholar-Athlete Team, meaning throughout the season the team must have 75% of their roster with an average of 90 or higher. Awesome job ladies!
Season Highlights
As a younger team, the girls started the season with optimism, a fresh mindset and a positive attitude. They worked hard every day in practice to prepare for their competitive Colonial Council and non-league game schedule. The girls made gains together as a group, improved on their individual skills, and learned from their experiences. The team finished with notable wins against Lansingburgh, Voorheesville, and Fonda-Fultonville and also placed 2nd Place in the Greenville Slam Tournament.
Sophomore student-athlete Mackenzie Cross was selected for Colonial Council All Stars - Honorable Mention recognition.
At athletic awards night, Mackenzie Cross was named as the team's Most Valuable Player (MVP) and Megan Visone was named as the Most Improved Player (MIP).
Best of luck to the team's two seniors: Juliana Lackie and Destiny Collins! Congratulations to the entire team on a great season!
Boys Tennis
The Boys Varsity Tennis team had a rigorous season with 15 matches, oftentimes playing back to back or 3 days in a row due to the uncooperative weather! The team grew in numbers this year from previous years and are hoping to continue that momentum to gain new players for next spring.
The team worked hard on their skills, stayed focused and had notable wins against Mohonasen / Schenectady, Cobleskill-Richmondville & Schoharie.
Postseason Sectionals
1 singles sectional match win for Jack Merrills.
1 doubles sectional match win for Stephen Mathai & John Robertson.
Competing in a team sectional match against Glens Falls, giving a great effort against a very tough opponent.
At athletic awards night, Brady Warner was named as the team’s Most Valuable Player (MVP) and Ryan Keiffer was named as the Most Improved Player (MIP).
Best of luck to the team's two seniors: Andrew Ginder and Chris Dodway and congratulations to the whole team on their season!
Girls Outdoor Track & Field
The Varsity Girls Outdoor Track & Field team had a successful season overall. The team competed in 5 league meets and Colonial Council Championships. They also participated in invitationals at Niskayuna, Watervliet, and Mohonasen High Schools. The dedication from the team was evident throughout the season and each athlete improved individually.
Postseason Sectionals
The team had six athletes competed in Sectionals - Katelyn Visone, Ana Ball, Aubrey Meddaugh, Katie McFerran, Mary McHugh, and Piper Weddell.
Additionally, Aubrey Meddaugh qualified for and competed in the State Qualifier Meet and was selected as a Colonial Council All-Star for Track & Field.
At athletic awards night, Mary McHugh was named as the team’s Most Valuable Player (MVP) and Aubrey Meddaugh was named as the Most Improved Player (MIP).

Boys Outdoor Track & Field
The Varsity Boys Outdoor Track & Field team had a noteworthy season and continued to improve week after week. The team competed in 5 league meets and Colonial Council Championships. They also participated in invitationals at Niskayuna, Watervliet, and Mohonasen High Schools.
This year, the team was led by Captains: Dominik Paljusai, Jacob Abrams and Maxwell Deyoe. The boys team finished the season with 6 athletes competing in State Qualifiers for the High Jump, Long Jump, Triple Jump, 200 meter, 800 meter, 400 hurdles, 4x100 relay, 4x400 relay at Guilderland High School.
At athletic awards night, Justin Castillo was named as the team’s Most Valuable Player (MVP) and Hunter Goss was named as the Most Improved Player (MIP).
Sophomore student-athlete Mason Brozowski was also named to the Colonial Council All-Star Team for Track & Field.
Congratulations to seniors: Jacob Abrams, Troy Burns, Tyler Carrk, Maxwell Deyoe, and Dominik Paljusaj! Overall, an awesome season and a job well done by the whole team!
