Wednesdays are Early Dismissal Days
This is just a reminder that our dismissal time on Wednesday is 1:40 PM for grades K-5, and 1:10 PM for TK. We recommend setting a recurring alarm for these times to make sure that all students are picked up on time.
Updated Protocols for Volunteer Fingerprinting
The safety of our children is our highest priority. With that in mind, several years ago the district reviewed the volunteer procedure and determined that it would include a requirement that all volunteers be fingerprinted. While the Raptor System checks local information, fingerprinting ensures that volunteers are both FBI and DOJ cleared. This has become common practice in most districts and the San Diego County Office.
If you applied and were cleared last year, you don’t need to go through the procedure again this year. You will remain on our list, and we are notified of any criminal activity that occurs.
For volunteers working in a classroom, with small groups, on the playground, on field trips, etc., you must follow the procedure below:
- Complete a volunteer application linked here.
- Complete a Livescan of FBI and DOJ fingerprints. If you submit your receipt for fingerprinting to the District (HR Office), the District will reimburse $50 of the cost.
- You must have a TB screening or TB test. This is good until it expires every four years.
Please be advised that it takes up to two weeks to be cleared. Please complete this process promptly in order to volunteer across our campus and for specific events such as field trips.
TK Dismissal Times
This is just a reminder that our TK dismissal times are at 2:15 PM on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday. TK dismisses at 1:10 PM on Wednesdays. Please make sure that you organize childcare for this period in the event that you have other children dismissing at our normal times (2:50 PM on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays. 1:40 PM on Wednesdays).
Campus Safety and Security
- Village Elementary School does not permit entrance to our campus of any individual who is not staff, cleared substitute personnel, parents or family members with ID, or registered and screened volunteers. All visitors who are not CUSD staff must submit their IDs for clearance through our Raptor System in the office before entering our campus.
- Village Elementary's gates to the school campus open to students each day, with supervision by Village staff, at 8:00 AM.
- Our gates are closed and locked to the outside at 8:10 AM. Students who enter campus after 8:10 AM must enter and check in through our Front Office.
- Our most fundamental responsibility to ensure students are safe and on campus throughout the school day is proper supervision of our students. We are committed to providing staffing and supervision to ensure student safety and continuously adjust our practices to improve them.
- We have security cameras installed on campus for surveillance of points of entry and exit and throughout campus.
Our annual safety drills begin in September with a campus-wide fire drill, followed by monthly drills (earthquake, lockdown, fire).
We are partners with our school community members to ensure student safety. We invite anyone with questions or concerns about safety and security and supervision of students at Village to call or email Principal Peter Kuhns at 619-522-8915 (peter.kuhns@coronadousd.net)
Back-to-School Night is on Wednesday, August 28th from 4:00 - 5:15 PM.
Back-to-School Night is an opportunity for parents and guardians to meet teachers, learn about grade-level curricula, and orient to our campus and staff. Our teachers will offer two 25 minute presentations (4:00-4:25 and 4:30-4:55). Back-to-School Night is best attended by adults only; however, we understand that not all families have childcare. Children in attendance must remain with you at all times and will not be permitted on playground spaces.
There will also be a presentation at Village Hall from our Administrators during these time blocks if you would like to attend. Please prioritize and attend your the Teacher's classroom presentation first.
