School Highlights
Hannahville Indian School in Wilson, Michigan
On January 31, Hannahville Indian School senior Jayden became the second player in school history to join the 1,000-point club, scoring 24 points in the team's win over Mackinac Island. He joins fellow senior and club founder Dashawn, who reached the milestone as a junior.
Jayden started this season 335 points away from the mark and achieved it 15 games in, fulfilling his goal as a freshman.
Jayden and Dashawn were part of the 2021-22 Soaring Eagles team that went undefeated in the Northern Lights League, capturing both the regular-season and tournament titles. The school's first two 1,000-point scorers on the same team have made this season unforgettable.
Congratulations, Jayden and Dashawn!
Dishchii'bikoh Community School in Cibecue, Arizona
At Dishchii'bikoh Community School in Cibecue, Arizona, a group of young innovators is proving that gaming can be more than just fun — it can be a powerful tool for problem-solving and community impact. Under the leadership of computer teacher Camille Abraham, the school's STEM team secured the Critical Thinking and Problem-Solving Award at the global competition by putting their minds toward solving an issue affecting their local community.
This school initiative encourages students to explore science, technology, engineering and math as career opportunities. The program leverages the immersive world of contemporary video games to teach coding, problem-solving and leadership skills in a hands-on, engaging way.
Lummi Nation School in Bellingham, Washington
Lummi Nation School students from four middle and high school classes — prehistory, English, Coast Salish history and cultural arts — took part in a curated trip to the Burke Museum of Natural History and Culture in Seattle in January.
Students explored three floors of exhibits featuring culture, biology and paleontology. Burke paleontologists also led interactive stations, giving students hands-on experience with fossil preparation, anatomy, paleobotany and the daily work of a paleontologist.
Richfield Residential Hall in Richfield, Utah
One Sunday, the Coyote Clan Student Family Group at Richfield Residential Hall gathered at their counselor Beatriz's home for a homemade lunch and a meaningful lesson on stereotypes and drug prevention.
As part of the Richfield Residential Hall Counseling Department’s Student Family Group program, each student is placed in a small, family-like group led by a staff mentor to foster belonging and connection. Through shared meals, discussions, educational activities and community service, the program provides a supportive space that strengthens students’ sense of community and encourages prosocial engagement.
