News from Mrs. Diggs
Dear Providence Parents,
Patriot Families – Can you believe it’s already March and that Spring is right around the corner? There is so much learning taking place. This six weeks, our teachers and staff have already begun identifying and assessing Essential Learning Standards for focused instruction. With these Essential Standards, teachers will craft Learning Targets that will help students understand what they must learn. Teachers and students will then co-create a plan for what constitutes success in relation to the Learning Targets – also known as Success Criteria. We strongly encourage you to ask your students to share their daily Learning Targets and Success Criteria as a means of continuing learning at home.
“Kindness Counts—Little Deeds Making a Big Difference” – Patriot Community Outreach Each six weeks, we structure academic and character development around a children’s book. This six weeks, we have selected Cloudette, by Tom Lichtenheld, as our Patriot Focus Book to help us learn more about our Patriot Core Value of KINDNESS. This is a sweet story of a little cloud who struggles to find her place in the big world until she recognizes she can make big and important differences in the lives of others on her own. We want to encourage your family together to brainstorm needs of people near or far, and discuss ways that your child or your family might make a difference. Share your acts of kindness- no matter how small by returning your rain cloud templates to school to be posted and inspire others through the 5th 6 Weeks. To learn more about Cloudette, visit mackids.com/cloudette. Our hope is for the Patriot community’s actions to mirror the ripple effect Cloudette makes in this Patriot Focus Book!
We want to share a special thank you to our Patriots for helping us collect Peanut Butter and Jelly for our LovePacs continued community service project. We collected 69 Peanut Butter and Jelly items that were donated to both LovePacs Aubrey and LovePacs Little Elm. Last weekend, many student representatives from our Student Council along with their families and Mrs. Owens had the opportunity to visit the LovePacs Little Elm site to prepare 100 food boxes for families in need over the Spring Break. To actually see how our food donations are organized, sorted and prepared for distribution was an amazing experience for our students! Furthermore, this group was able to live out our Patriot Core Value of EMPATHY first-hand. I am so honored to be part of a community that encourages service learning in addition to academics!
I am truly blessed to be able to serve our students, staff, and our Providence community. If I can be of assistance to you, please do not hesitate to contact me by calling the school at 940-369-1900 or via email at jdiggs@dentonisd.org.
With Patriot Pride,
Jairia Diggs, M.Ed.
