Canvas Corner: Google Slides as an Assignment in Canvas

Use Google Slides as assignment templates for your lessons in Canvas! In this video tutorial, Val teaches you how to use the Google Assignments LTI to assign a Google Slide template to your students. Join Dani and Matt as they explore blended learning and the technologies that support it, including Open Educational Resources (OER). This engaging audio podcast features expert guests from BYU’s Educational Research Team who share their experience and expertise on OERs and how they can improve teaching and learning.
Apple Teacher is a free professional development course designed by Apple in order to help teachers integrate the use of Apple products in the classroom. This course focuses on using the iPad in the classroom. In this course, students will find the necessary links to get started with the Apple Teacher program, a thoughtful series of tutorials and resources, links for taking the Apple Teacher Quizzes to earn badges, and a place to submit a final iPad-inspired lesson plan. This class will run in parallel to participation in the Apple Teacher Program. Although some supplemental material is linked from the Course, the majority of the content and all of the Badge earning quizzes are contained in the Apple Teacher program itself. Register here.

UEN Sr. Technical Trainer Matthew Winters has been selected for the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE) 20 to Watch Award for 2023. The 20 to Watch Award is given to educators who:

  • “Demonstrate the ability to both deliberately plan for and apply technology to improve the educational setting.

  • Continuously improve their professional practice through the exploration of new techniques and the consistent evaluation and reflection on current practices.

  • Share their work as a model that reflects ISTE’s mission to innovate teaching and learning, accelerate good practice and solve tough problems in education.”

He was selected for his work on Utah Education Network courses including PCBL + Tech and directing UCET’s 2023 conference to record attendance. He will be honored as part of ISTE’s 2023 conference in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in June. Read the press release here.

Educators are increasingly expected to exhibit skills and knowledge of using technology to enhance student learning. The UEN Educational Technology Endorsement Program is grounded in the USBE EdTech Competencies and the Utah Effective Teaching Standards. The Competency-Based Educational Technology Endorsement is divided into four courses. Participants will come away with a portfolio of work that aligns with each competency.

Four Corners Computer Science Convening

The conference provides hands-on and breakout sessions focusing on insights and interventions with strategies to provide professional learning to improve student outcomes. Sessions will focus on strengthening mental and behavioral health supports, student supports, grading practices, literacy best practices, strengthening the guaranteed curriculum at each school and developing a culture of investment.
