DISTRICT UPDATE:
Round Rock ISD Earns Sixth Consecutive District of Distinction Recognition by TAEA
Jul 19, 2024
For the sixth consecutive year, the Texas Art Education Association (TAEA) has named Round Rock ISD a District of Distinction for its Visual Arts Program.
The honor, which places Round Rock ISD’s Visual Arts Program in the top five percent in Texas, is given to select school districts for providing a well-rounded education that advocates and integrates visual arts curriculum to inspire creativity.
“Our visual arts faculty work diligently and creatively with students daily to ensure that they have the very best art education,” said Tim Lowke, Director of Fine Arts – Visual Arts for Round Rock ISD. “This award is an incredible testament to the high standards we set, the dedication and love for teaching and learning, and consistent student growth. Once again, we are recognized for our work for the sixth consecutive year. Our quality program is a direct result of our community support, expectations, and the talented faculty we attract from across the state and nation to work with our students.“
For the 2024 award, more than 1,200 districts were eligible to apply. Each district submitted support and evidence they met from the 14-point rubric over the previous school year. Only 94 districts met the qualifying criteria to receive the distinction. In addition, Round Rock ISD is one of only 16 school districts to receive this honor for four consecutive years, as long as the distinction has been available.
The Texas Art Education Association (TAEA) is the largest state professional organization for art educators in the United States. It is the mission of TAEA to promote quality visual arts education through leadership, advocacy, service, and professional development.
“Round Rock ISD has set a high standard for visual arts advocacy, integrated visual arts curriculum, encouraged creativity, community participation, and student growth,” said Nealy Holley, Chair of the Visual Art Administrators of Texas, a division of TAEA, “It is a true testament to your visual art educators’ skill, dedication, and flexibility that the quality of their programs continued to provide strong and comprehensive visual art educational experiences to students.”
All districts that met the qualifying criteria will be honored at the TAEA Administration and Supervision Division meeting in November as part of the TAEA Conference.
