Superintendent's Message
Welcome Back Message from Leslie Rames
It is my pleasure to welcome you to the 2024-2025 school year! Summer has flown by, and we here at Castle Rock Union Elementary School District (CRUESD) are excited to welcome our students to the start of the new school year. Our focus this school year is to ensure that every student has access to high quality instruction in a safe and secure school environment, each and every day!
Many of the great programs and initiatives started last school year will be continued and/or expanded this school year; such as our Music Program, iReady Math and Reading Assessment and Instruction Program, Reading Intervention Teacher and Teacher’s Aides, etc. This year we are making changes to staffing and adding additional programs that will continue to make student learning even more impactful. Here are just some of the additional programs this year:
- Math Intervention Instructor to provide our students with intensive mathematics support at their level of need. This is an additional 4.5 hour staff member that will provide 1 on 1 and small group mathematics instruction in each of our classes.
- Pear Deck Online Tutoring will provide all students with unlimited 1on 1 tutoring based on the student’s individual need in any subject area. Pear Deck Tutoring will be available both at school and at home.
- Chromebook Checkout to provide students with access to our different online learning programs at home, parents will be able to checkout a school/district Chromebook for student use at home. There will be a limited supply of Chromebooks (previously used in classes) to check out, so check out will be based on student need and availability of Chromebooks.
Due to budgetary constraints our district has had to make some changes to our classes and teaching staff. Please know that these changes were made out of necessity and that the formation of classes was done with the intent of having the least impact on our students as possible. Small class size is still a district priority and as such we will make every effort to maintain small class sizes for our classes. Our 2024-2025 classes with teacher will be as follows:
TK-K Class: Mr. Norgaard
1st-2nd Grade Class: Mrs. Hart-Chiodo
3rd-5th Grade Class: Miss White
6th-8th Grade Class: Mr. Sommers
One of the most important goals we have this year is to ensure that every student attends school regularly. Coming to school every day, is critical to academic achievement. Chronic Absenteeism negatively impacts learning to such a degree that we recognize it as a top priority second only to student safety. Parents and families play a huge role in promoting student attendance. Teachers, staff, and administration can offer students support and programs to improve attendance, but parent involvement makes all the difference in ensuring regular attendance.
In an effort of ensuring student safety we will be locking the front door at the beginning of the school day. A doorbell will be placed at the front door that you can use to let us know that you are at the door and need to be let in. This will help us to ensure that all that enter the school are checked in by the office. If no one answers the door right away, please be patient as we will be with you as quickly as possible.
I welcome your input, suggestions, and questions. There will be multiple opportunities throughout the school year to participate in our district's Parent Advisory/LCAP Committee and other committees, that help to make all of the district and school long-term and short-term plans. These meetings are a great opportunity to have a voice in what is happening for our students. It is very important to the district and school that as many parents as possible attend these very important meetings. We will be continuing to have lots of fun Family Events throughout the school year both during the school day and in the evenings, so make sure to keep your eyes out and put the dates on your calendar so that you don’t forget to attend. Also, do not hesitate to call or send an email to your child's teacher or the school office when you have an idea or concern.
Together, we can make the most of the opportunities that the new school year brings. Best wishes for a fantastic 2024-2025 school year!
