Hey Nicholson families!

Please read below for our weekly newsletter full of some important and fun information for our Nicholson Stars and families.

Happy School Board Appreciation week to our wonderful school board, but especially to our own member- David Chastain. Thank you for all you do for us and all of your help and support.

Nicholson will take the new Georgia School Climate Survey this year. Each parent or guardian is invited to take the family version to answer questions about the current school or schools you have a child or children attending. If two or more children attend the same school, please only complete one survey for that school.

The survey measures what you think about how the school engages with families. Answers are not linked to names in any way. When typing answers, please do not give names or information that you don’t want to share with this school. Data will be shared with school leaders to help improve the school and will be published on the GaDOE website.

Dear Nicholson Families,

I hope this message finds you well. I am writing to share a concern about the increased number of students arriving late to school each morning. As you know, timely arrival is essential for students to begin their day positively and to fully participate in all educational activities.

When students arrive late, they miss important classroom instruction, and it can be difficult for them to catch up with their peers. This disruption not only affects the students who are tardy but also impacts the overall learning environment for the entire class.

We understand that mornings can be hectic and more difficult when we have cold or rainy weather, and we appreciate your continued support in ensuring your child arrives on time. To help address this issue, we would like to offer the following reminders and suggestions:

• School Hours: Our school day begins promptly at 7:50 this is when both our staff and students begin their day. Students should be in their classroom and ready to learn by that time.
• Plan Ahead: Consider adjusting morning routines to allow extra time for any unexpected delays or weather concerns.
• Drop-Off Information: Please note that students may arrive as early as 7:15 to ensure a smooth transition into the school day.
• Safety: The bell rings at 7:50 that is when our staff in the car line leaves and begins their instructional day.

For the safety of your child, if you are late and/or in the car line at 7:50 you will need you will need to park and walk your child to the door to be signed in by the front office. Please do not park and let your child run through the parking lot without you. This is extremely dangerous.

We also encourage families facing specific challenges that may be affecting punctuality to reach out to us. Our goal is to partner with you in supporting your child’s education, and we are happy to explore options or help where possible.

Thank you for your attention to this important matter. Together, we can ensure that all students start each day safely ready to learn and grow!

Our PTA is so smart. We love the way they took the time to gather our staff's favorite lists and put them together in such a creative way. This will come in great use for parents, but also for staff members trying to treat a co-worker every once in a while! Click below to check it out-

We have lots of nice items in the lost and found located outside the cafeteria. Please remind your students to check it out because the items will be donated during Christmas break.

Also, please make sure to write your students name on the tag so that items can be returned when found.

Please be prepared with your drivers license when you come to visit the school. All adults must check in through our computer system with your ID.

Also, please make sure all visitors are also listed in your Parent Vue account.

It's the time of year that we have lots of germs going around. Please remember that students need to stay home 24 hours after the last time they vomit and/or have a fever without medication.

Also, please store our clinic number (770-928-5576) in your phones so you know who's calling if we have to call you from the clinic.

We are excited to announce that Nicholson has been named a Literacy Leader by the Georgia Department of Education for our literacy growth in third and fifth grade. We are so very proud of our teachers, students, and families. You have ALL played a part in this great achievement.

-Tap Change my Info

-Tap on Address

-Tap Edit

-Tap the three lines in the top corner

-Tap Address and update your info

(Make sure to check your address, phone numbers, emails, & emergency contacts)

***Don't forget that you will have to upload two new proof of residencies for your address to be corrected. ***

It is also important for all students to know parent phone numbers and their address. Please review this with your students often.

NEW Form: Authorization to Give Medication in School

This is a change from the current authorization to give medication in school form as of Thursday, July 25, 2024. We have an updated procedure regarding medication administration at school that ensures our nurses receive the appropriate physician orders for prescription medications to adhere to safe medication administration in schools.

Authorization to Give Medication JGCD-2 2024 (click to view/print form) requires all prescription medications to have the Healthcare Provider's Signature on the Authorization to Give Medication form. In order for the School Nurse to administer medications to students, the parent/guardian must provide the form signed by both the Healthcare Provider and the parent/guardian.

The medication administration instructions must match on the signed form and the prescription label.

Be on the lookout for our sign in station near the door of the front office. All CCSD schools are being equipped with a digital Identakid check-in system that you will need to scan your driver's license as you enter and exit the building.

COBB COUNTY SCHOOL DISTRICT'S AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAM

To enroll your elementary school aged student in ASP, the Enrolling Adult* will need to complete the following steps:

1. Create a Parent Account by going to http://cobbk12.ce.eleyo.com by clicking on the Sign in Button at the top of the page. Then click on Create One Now and complete the steps
2. Each child will need to be enrolled individually under the Enrolling Adult account
3. Each child will need to have a contract under the Enrolling Adult account
4. Your child will be enrolled automatically for every day ASP is in session. Each child will only be charged for actual days of attendance

* The Enrolling Adult as defined by Cobb County School District Policy is the parent/guardian with whom the student resides and who enrolled the student in school.

NOTE: Contracts submitted by anyone other than the Enrolling Adult will not be accepted.

ONLINE PAYMENT INFORMATION: Online payments made with credit card and ACH/electronic check will be subject to a 4.75% processing/program fee. Cash or check payments may be made directly to your school’s program with no processing/program fee. Please see your school’s ASP Director for more details.

IMPORTANT: You must still follow the local school's transportation procedures when making changes to your child's transportation & bus schedule.
