Jaguar Family Week-At-A-Glance
Jardine Elementary - September 3, 2024
Principal's Message- Mrs. Pomeroy
I hope everyone had a wonderful Labor Day Weekend!!
As a reminder, our Book Fair opened this week! Students MUST have an adult with them to shop at the book fair before and after school! Each classroom will have their own time to go down as a group and shop during the week as well!
We also have our Grandparents Day THIS FRIDAY! This even takes place at 8:00 on Friday morning, during Late Start, so you will need to make arrangements for students to be at school to meet up with their grandparent or the adult coming with them. They can come anytime between 8:00 and 9:00! Someone must remain with your student until supervision begins at 8:50. Families are invited to shop the Book Fair during this time as well!!
We still have about 100 families that need to fill out the food service form!! Even if you think or know you will not qualify for a reduction in fees, is it critical that we have that form from 100% of our families, just like we do each year! That form is connected to critical funding for our students and school, most notable the continued ability to offer free breakfast and lunches for all students!
Here is the link to our Jardine Elementary Website, to be able to fill out the food service form!! It is located at the top of the page! Jardine Elementary Website
We will continue to reach out to individual families who have not yet completed the form! Thank you for your help with this!

Attendance Policies and Information
Attendance Policy
It is important that your child attend school each day to have a consistent educational program. Of course, illness or other family emergencies can cause absences. If your child will be absent please let us know by contacting the office at 785-730-8200.
The Topeka Public School Procedures are as follows:
Absences are excused for student illness or family emergencies. If your child is going to be absent, you should call the office before 9:30 a.m. It is each parent’s responsibility to be sure the office has been notified of the reason for absence. Advanced notice is appreciated.
A phone call attempt will be made on every child that does not arrive at school by 9:30am.
After 2 days of unexcused absences, staff will conduct a home visit or make other direct contact with the child's family, determine what assistance is needed to remedy the problem.
Unexcused absences can result in a truancy report being filed.
Each absence after 10 excused absences may result in the need for a doctor’s release note to be considered an excused absence.
Although Kansas law does not require students to be in school prior to the age of 7, ANY child enrolled in public school does fall into the state truancy policies. Truancy reports will be made to the district truancy officer for any student with excessive absences and/or tardies.

A message from SRO Officer McClimans.
Hello Parents! I hope you all are having a great start to your school year. My goal from this message is to keep it that way! :) I'd just like to remind everyone that all city and state ordinances are enforced on 501 property. Here are a couple of my observations during morning drop-offs at Jardine Elementary.
- Stop Signs. I'd say a good 25% of you are committing stop sign violations (at least). And that's with me standing right by the sign! lol. PLEASE come to a complete stop at the stop sign before proceeding. That doesn't mean slow down and roll through (that would be a yield sign).
- Speed. Unless otherwise posted, the speed limit on private property is 12 mph. Many of you are going well over that. There is a section in the south middle school parking lot that is posted at 10 mph, so please pay attention to that as you're exiting.
Message from the School Health Clinic

If your student wears glasses, please make sure they have them at screening. Referral letters will be sent via the parent portal and/or mail.
Thank you,

Middle School Siblings- Expectations
We work to be as family friendly as possible with the middle school, and being on different schedules can be a hinderance for families. If you have a student that attends the middle school, and you would like for them to wait at the elementary school so you are able to pick them up at one time at the end of the day, there are few steps and expectations to accomplish this:
- Contact the office and request that your middle school sibling be added to the "middle school sibling list". (785) 730-8200
- That list is shared with the middle school secretaries in their office
- Your middle school student must go to the middle school office to pick up their "badge"
- Badges must with your middle school students after school, and available to be shown at the request of any elementary staff member at any time. (If they forget their badge, the middle school office will issue a "temporary badge" for the day)
- Only students with badges are allowed to wait in the middle school. Please talk with your middle school student(s) about not letting anyone in the exterior doors or encouraging their friends who do not have a badge to walk over with them after school. This is a safety concern for everyone in the building.
- Middle School students are expected to wait in the downstairs west foyer, in either the discovery area of little stage area. They are not allowed to go up and down the classroom hallways or in other places around the building, as school is still in session for elementary students
- Talk with all of your students to ensure there is a "plan" for them to connect during dismissal. Intermediate students (3-5) can go down the stairs and walk by the middle school areas to meet up with their sibling. Walkers can wait at the west doors and walk out together.
- There is not a middle school or elementary school staff member available to be assigned to supervise this group. There is an expectation that they stay in their area, working on homework, quietly visiting with others in the area, etc. Any disruptive behavior or behavior that is distracting to the elementary school day will initiate a phone call home to parents and a warning will be issued. A second instance will lead to the Middle School student losing the privilege to wait in the elementary school for their sibling, and their badge will be revoked.
