News from the Principal
Greetings WE Families,
Thank you to those who have taken the time to complete the surveys below. Your input means a great deal to us so know that your time taking these surveys is greatly appreciated! Please complete these surveys by Friday.
CSD SEL Vision + Goals Feedback: This survey will help our CSD district leaders make an informed decision regarding the Social-Emotion learning needs of our students and community.
Westchester School Climate Survey: This survey is part of our College and Career Readiness Index (CCRPI) for the Georgia Department of Education. We still have time to increase our participation level.
The thoughts, opinions and perspectives of the Westchester community are important for the progress of our district. Thank you once again for taking the time to share your insight.
During the first semester, we did not have extra items for purchase in the cafeteria like we had last year. The School Nutrition team is bringing this service back to our cafeteria this semester. Students will have the option to purchase an extra item on Wednesday and Friday only.
Wednesday - Cookies
Friday - Frozen Fruit Juice or Ice Cream
Students will:
purchase the item when they go through the line.
only purchase if they have money in their lunch account. Please monitor your child's account closely. Students will not be able to charge extra items.
Lunch monitors will:
encourage students to eat their lunch before eating the extra item
assist as needed but this is a parental choice that they are not able to monitor closely. Please have that conversation with your child.
Thank you for your assistance with this process. Again this is an optional service that you will determine if your child will have that choice.
Mark your calendars for the upcoming events

Reminders
School Lunch Policy: Please be sure to maintain a positive lunch balance for your child. This will help us avoid any unexpected lunch changes for students. Check your Parent Portal frequently to make sure your child has adequate funds for the cafeteria. You may also find the Parent Portal app (for Apple or Android) to be more convenient.

Creativity Spotlight: Black Inventors
Each week we will spotlight an inventor that Ms. Querubin is exploring with her students. This week is Lonnie Johnson and the 2nd grade students made Supersoaker "prototype" similar to the inventor! Click the button below to make one at home, too.

The fun happens on Saturday, March 15, at the Decatur High School stadium. This year, in addition to the 5k (a Peachtree qualifier), the 1-Mile Fun Run, and the adorable Tot Trot (for our friends ages four and under), DEF is offering a "None-Run" for anyone who wants to support Decatur kids without breaking a sweat! This is DEF's largest fundraiser and supports programs and initiatives that remove obstacles, provide opportunities, support educators, and strengthen the Decatur community!
To prepare for the race, all K-2 elementary schools in the district are participating in the iRun program, which teaches students the fundamentals of fitness skills that make running, jogging, and walking enjoyable and safe and prepares them to run the one-mile fun run in March. For more information about DEF's initiatives and how you can get involved, please visit www.decatureducationfoundation.org.
