Please find the attached guidance for elementary specials and recess to use as you plan for the 20-21 school year. Please note the new updates highlighted in yellow that were added recently

Attached you will find the Off to a Great Start document which outlines setting beginning of the year routines and establishing a love of reading. Initial levels confirmation, RTM Action Plans and Summer Loss Action Plans should be in place by September 11th. Since we are starting school on the 24th of August, our IRLA target will move on the 24th of each month, please see the attached On Target Chart.

In an effort to build content knowledge through a complex text set, you will find that throughout the FLVS modules, we have layered in ReadyGEN texts and/or DBQs (GR2-5). Attached you will find a K-5 ReadyGEN Text document which outlines the module and text added to elevate the knowledge being built. Some of the texts will cross over grade bands based on the purpose for adding it into the curriculum. Teachers will find lessons for the additional texts built out in myLearning for students to interact with within the lesson sequence.

Please consider how you can send books home with your mySchool Online students, so they can have complex text in hand during live lessons. We received a lot of positive feedback this summer by providing access to hard copies of books and digital books through Bookshelf for students to read.

This year, we will have access to a new, enhanced feature, SchoolPace Connects, where teachers can access the most updated Foundational Skills Toolkits in pdf. The Yellow to 2R toolkits will reflect the Science of Reading and Phonological Skill Development. Teachers will also have access to video lessons aligned to each toolkit lesson, Yellow to 2R which can be used asynchronously or synchronously. We provided multiple sessions during TWL to acclimate teachers to these new resources and experience a model lesson in a virtual setting. Additional learning opportunities will be provided during the school year.

Great Minds Eureka Math in Sync & Equip will now provide PLCs with the resources needed to prioritize critical content and adjust pacing as needed. In order to implement these new resources as intended by the lead writers, we are providing the guidance below instead of the lesson by lesson pacing recommendations that we have provided in previous years. The guidance below helps to ensure all modules and standards are covered by the end of the year and/or by state testing. Please know these are only recommendations. Schools/PLCs have the autonomy to make decisions based on the recommendations from our new resources. If you have questions or need support or guidance, please reach out to the Mathematics Curriculum Specialist that supports your school.

Intervention Overview (designed for teachers who have used Zearn): 25-minute training video to orient teachers, coaches, and administrators to the new Intervention resources available in their School Account including Student-level Reports, Foundational Content Guidance, Learning Recovery, and lesson-level setting. We are proud to introduce our new Social Emotional Learning Network. This site is designed to be a resource that all teachers can use to support their implementation of SEL into their daily instruction. On the Network, teachers can click on the grade band that matches what they teach and find a wealth of resources including welcoming activities, ideas for collaborative structures, and optimistic closures they can use with their classes. There are also two calendars linked at the top of the home page that can be used for teachers to begin creating a compassionate environment from day 1 with their classes.
