Principal Message
Hello Waubesa Families,
We hope you had an enjoyable spring break with your family. As we transition back from break, it's important to note that there's a lot happening during the last 9 weeks of the school year including state testing, field trips, Family Fun Night, Art and Music Shows for 4th and 5th graders, Olympiad, and much more.
We begin the Forward Exam for all grades 3-5 this week. 4th graders started the exam on Tuesday, March 19th when they took the social studies portion. All other students will start on April 2nd. We would love it if you could donate food so students feel energized and ready to take on the exam. Click here for the Food Donation List. Thank you so much for supporting all of our students!
On March 12, you received a message from Melissa Pfohl, Director of Teaching and Learning, regarding our upcoming Forward Exam state assessment. The letter that was shared provides important information including ways to support students during testing, sample test items, test schedules, and more. Our test schedule is provided below.
Thank you for your support.

Safety Drill
School safety is a priority in the McFarland School District. At Waubesa, we take several steps to ensure your child is safe and our school is secure. A critical component of our safety plan is ensuring that students and staff members are prepared in the event that we need to evacuate the school (e.g. fire at school, etc.). On March 19th, at approximately 2:00 PM, we conducted an "Evacuation" drill. We snuck this drill in just before the snow came! :)
During the drill, we made an announcement that clearly explained to students that it was a drill prior to the fire alarm being turned on. The entire procedure lasted approximately seven minutes. Before the fire alarm was activated, students were reminded (as we have done during each of our previous drills and safety discussions) that schools are often some of the safest places to be and that these skills students and staff learn about safety can be applied anywhere, both in school and out of school. Our goal is always to make this experience a useful practice of the procedures, without alarming students.
If you have any questions about the drill, please feel free to contact Kelly Vetter at any time at 838-4609.

Health Services
Measles: Facts & Information
Dear Parents and Guardians,
The CDC has reported measles cases are currently occurring in multiple states – CDC Measles Cases and Outbreaks. The McFarland School District Health Services would like to take this opportunity to provide some information about measles and how to prevent it.
Measles is a viral infection that causes fever, cough, a rash, sore eyes, and can lead to serious complications. Measles spreads very easily, so it is important to protect against infection. Getting vaccinated is the best way to prevent measles. DHS - Measles Fact Sheet
Two doses of Measles, Mumps, Rubella (MMR) vaccine provide the best protection against disease. These doses must be separated by at least 28 days. MMR vaccine is routinely recommended between 12-15 months and the second dose before entering school, at 4-6 years. Waivers to the school requirements are available for religious, health, and personal conviction reasons. However, in the event of an outbreak of measles students with waivers may be excluded from school until the outbreak is declared over.
It is important for you to check your child’s immunization records to make sure they have received two doses of MMR vaccine. You may check your child’s immunization record by logging on to the Wisconsin Immunization Registry (WIR). You may also see your child's school immunization record on Infinite Campus > Health. Your local health department, family health care provider or online health MyChart may also have your child’s immunization record.
If you have specific questions for the MSD Health Services Department, please reach out to District Nurse, Stephanie Peplinski at peplins@mcfsd.org, (608)838-4679. Thank you
