Weekly Community Updates - November 22, 2024
Dear Students and Families,
We hope everyone is excited for the upcoming week off! This is a great opportunity for students to rest and recharge.
When we return from break, we’ll have just three weeks left in the semester. These final weeks are crucial as students will complete their final units, projects, and assessments to determine their fall semester grades. Families and students are encouraged to check current grades and review any missing assignments or questions together.
ParentVue Helpful Hints
Log in: https://ca-juhsd-psv.edupoint.com/PXP2_Login.aspx
Using ParentVue: the toolbar on the left side takes you to data points for your student (history of email messages from OHS; attendance, class schedule, report card, and more)
How to locate grades and assignments: go to "Grade Book" in the toolbar and your student courses appear. Click on any course and you'll see a week-by-week mention of assignment(s) and grades submitted.
Mark your calendars! Giving Tuesday is coming the week we return, December 3. Consider donating to OSPTO through paypal. Donations to OSPTO directly support Oceana programs. Your contributions directly support Oceana’s programs and make a lasting impact.
Thank you for your continued support, and enjoy the break!
Take care,
Maritza Torres
Fall Break
In observance of fall recess, Oceana will be closed Monday, November 25 through Friday, November 29 with school resuming on Monday, December 2. We will be returning with an even schedule day.
Student Parking Lot
Parking lot permit checks will take place next week. Remember to display your parking permit for the reasons of campus safety.
Wednesdays: Restorative Attendance Tutorial
Oceana High School values student attendance. We stress the importance of being on time and prepared for a strong start. This means being in your seat with your materials ready at the specified time. Perfecting these skills now will prepare students for college and career. Students who experience ongoing struggles with attending any of their classes on time can expect to be supported by Oceana’s restorative attendance workshop. This workshop will be for one hour on Wednesdays after school. Students can expect to learn about the value of timeliness and have time to make up for any missed work. These will happen every Wednesday and will focus on students who have 3 or more tardies in the previous week. Doors open immediately after school on Wednesday at 1:15 pm in computer lab room 111. Students will not be admitted after 1:30 pm. Please contact Vice Principal Jose Campos if you have any questions.

The Experiment in International Living
All juniors will be learning about the experiment in international living program on Thursday November 21st during flex time. JUHSD has collaborated with this organization for many years because there is a special Woodland scholarship available ONLY to JUHSD students who participate. Students should know that the scholarship is need based. Most of our students can get a little money towards the experience, but scholarships can be more significant for families who demonstrate more substantial need.
The Experiment in International Living provides immersive summer abroad programs for high school students. Programs are 3-4 weeks long and focused on critical global themes: Cultural Discovery & the Arts; Language Training; Peace, Politics, & Human Rights; STEM; and Sustainability & The Environment in addition to programs offering College Credit & Internships. The Experiment welcomes all Oceana HS students to apply online. Read more about Destinations - The Experiment. The scholarship covers between $500 and nearly full scholarships depending on financial need and program placement. Please read the scholarship flyer attached for more information. Questions? Contact info@experiment.org.
Donate to the Robotics Team!
We are excited to introduce the Cyber Sharks, Oceana High School's first-ever robotics team. Our goal is to compete in the FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC), but we need your help to make it happen!
Join us in making history at Oceana High School by donating today and helping the Cyber Sharks swim to victory in our first season!
Donate to the Rock Band Course!
Hey parents and rock band enthusiasts! Our students are rocking out every Thursday afternoon, and it’s been a blast—so much creativity, so much energy, and yes, a lot of loud noise! But we’ve run into a bit of a dilemma: we’ve got more eager musicians than we do instruments and amps. Imagine trying to form a band with three guitars and only one amp—it’s like trying to throw a party with one slice of pizza! We need your help to make sure everyone can join the fun and strut their musical stuff.
Donating to our Oceana High School Rock Band account will help us get the extra gear we need now, but we’ll also need funds later for things like guitar and bass strings, synthesizers, gear maintenance, and the cases to keep everything safe. Not to mention, we’ll need transportation to gigs and recording studios when our rock stars are ready to hit the road! Your support will keep our band running smoothly, so we can focus on making awesome music. We’d really appreciate any donation you can make to help our young musicians thrive! Thank you!
