Information for UIL Academics
Tison UIL Academic Events Qualifying Week
We will have qualifying tests for some of the UIL academic events the week of January 21-24 in the library. Students will be able to take a qualifying test for any of these events:
- Calculator Applications
- Chess Puzzles
- Dictionary Skills
- Maps, Graphs, and Charts
- Mathematics
- Number Sense
- Science
- Art History
The qualifying tests will be from 3:10-3:40 PM each day during the qualifying week -- students should go to their advisory class first, listen to announcements, and then get a pass from their advisory teacher to come down to the library to take a test.
The qualifying tests will be shortened versions of original tests from previous UIL Academic Meets. Each test will be timed, with none of them lasting longer than 15 minutes. There are no specific tests on specific days -- all tests will be available to take every day during the qualifying week. Students will just need to tell me which test they plan to take. Students are also welcome to return multiple times throughout the week to take multiple qualifying tests!
If a student wants to take more qualifying tests than the week allows, he or she can make an appointment with the library to come before or after school during qualifying week to take additional tests.
UIL Spelling & Listening Skills Qualifying Tests
Because UIL Spelling and Listening have an oral administration portion to their competition, we must hold a qualifying test separate from the ones given during the qualifying week mentioned above. Therefore, the qualifying test for UIL Spelling will be on Tuesday, January 14th in the library from 3:10-3:40 PM (advisory time). The qualifying test for UIL Listening will be on Friday, January 17th in the library 3:10-3:40 PM.
UIL Impromptu Speaking & Oral Reading Qualifiers
UIL Impromptu Speaking will have its qualifying session during its regular practice session on Tuesday, January 28th in the cafeteria with Mrs. Nance from 3:10-3:40 PM. Students who plan to try out for Impromptu Speaking will need to go to their advisory class first, listen to announcements, and then get a pass from their advisory teacher to go to the cafeteria. UIL Oral Reading will have its qualifying session on Thursday, January 16th in the library from 7:35 to 8:05 AM. Students who plan to try out for Oral Reading will need to bring the reading piece they should have already picked out during one of the Oral Reading practices.
UIL Academic Meet Parent Permission Forms
Once we've scored all of the qualifying tests and made final judgments in the speaking events, students chosen to represent Tison at the UIL Academic Meet in February will be given a parent permission form to take home and get signed by their parent/guardian. We plan to get the permission forms to students on Monday, January 27th. This form will have information about the UIL Academic Meet that is scheduled for Wednesday, February 26th and Thursday, February 27th at Hall MS in Weatherford, Texas. The form will need to be returned by Friday, February 7th in order for your student's name to be included on the event roster that is sent to the host school.
If you have any questions, please email Leah Greer (lgreer@weatherfordisd.com).
