COUNSELOR'S CORNER
Grade 5 & 6
On Tuesday, December 3rd, Ms. Adamo taught a character education lesson to the sixth grade. This month’s lesson focused on Gratitude: How does gratitude help with feeling like you belong and help to reduce conflicts? Students created their own gratitude jar and learned other daily activities they can do to help feel grateful and cope when they are having a difficult day. Be sure to ask your child(ren) to show you his/her gratitude jar!
On Thursday, December 5th, Ms Adamo taught a character education lesson to the fifth grade. This month’s lesson focused on Gratitude and Empathy: How does expressing gratitude help with feeling empathy? When we know what we are grateful for, we can recognize how it would feel to not have that “thing” in our lives. Feeling grateful causes us to feel emotions. Empathy is feeling that emotion with someone else. Students created their own “I am grateful for” rays of sunshine worksheet. Be sure to ask your child(ren) to show his/her “rays” to you!
8th Grade Information
Students who submitted a transcript release form to Ms. Adamo for Catholic high schools, your records were sent on Wednesday, November 13th. Students who submitted a transcript release form for Bergen County Academies/Tech, your records have been submitted; check your email to see when I submitted them. Any student who is applying to a Private or Boarding School needs to submit his/her forms to Ms. Adamo by Monday, December 2nd.
Ms. Adamo will continue to post information regarding NVOT on her Google Classroom. This way, students and families can locate the information easily. Please encourage your child(ren) to check her classroom regularly.
Reminders: High School Scheduling conferences typically take place at the end of January and occur at CDW, during the hours of 8:30 AM- 3:00 PM. Ms. Adamo, along with a representative from NVOT, meets with each eighth grader and his/her parent/guardian to answer any questions about NVOT and to choose his/her ninth-grade electives and his/her world language. All other courses are based on recommendations from the students' eighth grade teachers. At the beginning of January, an email will be sent to all Grade 8 families to sign up for a conference. All students are encouraged to create a schedule at NVOT, even if they are planning on attending a different school in the fall.
