Rāmere Friday 17th June Pipiri 2022 (T2: Week 7 of 10)
Our Tumuaki / Principal
- Mid-Year Interviews with Reports: Next week we have our Mid-Year Interviews with Reports. Thank you to the many parents who have already booked their time to catch up with their child's teacher. We encourage you to bring along a whanau support person as we know that it takes a village to raise a child. This person could be someone such as a grandparent. It is a precious time, being only 15 minutes, focused on your child as a learner and, as such, it is not appropriate for pre-schoolers.
- Air Purifiers: Five of our six classrooms have been provided with air purifiers from the Ministry of Education. This is a way of keeping our classroom air clean when we have to keep our doors closed due to temperature.
- Pick Ups and Drop Offs: A reminder that the gate that can be operated by children is the pool entrance gate, so if you are dropping your children off that can be a good place to do it. Further, we do encourage all parents to come into school to collect children and not have the children wait outside the school gate. The reason is that children can be very spontaneous and when they see you they can forget everything they have been taught and simply run towards you, even if there is a road in between. You coming in to pick children up means this is all avoided.
- Cell Phones: We do not expect any children to be here with us, with cell phones. The way the messages are given to children, during school time, is through the office. That way we know what is happening for all our children.
- Matariki and Edendale's Kapa Haka Group: Our Kapa Haka group is going to be performing at the Gore and Districts Matariki Celebration on Friday 24th June at the Waimumu Field Days Pavilion. Our group is set to perform at 4.40 pm. They are going to be part of over four hours of live entertainment from kapa haka groups and school bands, involving around 200 students from across Southland. We are getting very excited about their first live performance. Last year they were digital for Polyfest. This year they go live.
Thank You - Team Edendale
- Student Council: This week the Student Council, supported and mentored by Mrs Jenny Coyle, organised Edendale's Got Talent 2022. It was great to see so many children being brave and putting their talents out there for others to see. It was also a great lunchtime entertainment experience for many children, epsecially given that the weather was rather winter-ish. Thanks, Student Council.
Matariki 2022

Student Council - Term Two Compassion Fundraiser
On Friday 1st July, we will have a dress-up day to support the Southland Charity Hospital Trust, which was established in memory of cancer patient, Blair Vining.
The Southland Charity Hospital will provide healthcare for those living in the Southern DHB Zone who would otherwise be unable to access treatment through the private or public systems.
The theme of our dress-up/mufti day is “My Dream Job’ - children can dress up to reflect the job that they think they would like to have when they grow up. This ties in with our current DRIVE Inquiry exploring jobs in our community.
Children who dress up or choose to wear mufti are to please bring a gold coin donation.
Our Team for this Week - Team Kiwi
Kia ora from all the hardworking tamariki in Team Kiwi.
Well, as we reach the end of Week 7, Term 2, it is time for us to reflect on the term so far, and what a term it has been!
We started off with Sue Galloway coming into our room and transforming it into a science laboratory for the day. It was hands-on, live and engaging science. The children loved it!
We have also had two fun hockey sessions with Sarah our Sports Activator, a trip to the Kamahi Reserve searching for bugs, a visit from Elgrego the Magician learning about values, and Mr Shepherd (a local fireman) to teach us about fire safety, as well as a trip down to the racecourse for Lower Mataura Valley Zone Cross Country! Phew!
What excitement we have had and that is not even mentioning all the Writing, Maths and Reading we have been busy doing daily!
For DRIVE we have learnt about how simple machines work and are currently learning about different occupations there are, what our parents do and talking about what we might like to do when we get older.
This week we have been sharing our speeches with the class and next week we will start learning about Matariki.
We have many helpers that come into Team Kiwi each week who we appreciate very much. Last week we celebrated with them and acknowledged the work they do for us. Thank you to Mrs Rosalie Lumley, Mrs Stefanie Troster and Miss Tracey Lockhart for all you do for us.
Next week we look forward to meeting with the students, parents and whanau of Team Kiwi at the mid-year report interviews.
Thanks for reading!
From the Team Kiwi tamariki and the two kaiako, Mrs Duffy and Mrs Clarke.

Are ready for our learning.
Work right through from start to finish.
Care for people, property and places.
Look after our belongings.
Involve ourselves in our school whanau community.

Principal's Values Award
This week the Principal/Tumuaki would like to acknowledge Rose van de Laak for being a strong contributor, living out our school values every day.
Most Valuable Pupil: Team Kahu
Charlie Frantz is Team Kahu’s MVP this week for showing Haepapa - Responsibility.
Charlie always has a smile on his face as he greets the teacher in the morning. He gets his tools ready for the day and checks if there is review work that needs completing before the morning bell.
Charlie makes sure that he completes all his work in a timely manner. He shows he can manage himself and his learning by keeping track of what activities he has completed and what still needs to be done.
Charlie shows responsibility by getting up early each morning to complete his home partnership work, without needing to be reminded by his parents. He also makes sure that it is handed in at the end of the week, after being checked and signed off.
Charlie is actively involved in several sports teams. He attends practices and games, being on time and prepared for sessions. Charlie shows he is a team player both on and off the field and court.
Charlie, it is great to have your sense of humour to brighten our day in Team Kahu.
Keep working hard and pushing yourself in your learning. Tino pai.
Most Valuable Pupil: Team Pukeko
McKenna is a Year Three student who is a great role-model of Haepapa - Responsibility for our team.
McKenna always has a tidy, correct uniform and she can be relied on to have all her learning tools ready for the day. She makes sure to take home her belongings each afternoon, and she completes her homework every week.
McKenna keeps all her work tools and belongings tidy and she is very responsible about putting away class equipment or games when she has finished with them.
McKenna is also a classmate who leads the way by following instructions quickly, and carefully; she works hard on her learning tasks and always does her best. She is supportive of others in her group work and encourages and helps them to do a good job too.
McKenna, we are lucky to have you in our team to help us see what a confident, connected and actively-involved lifelong learner looks like!
Keep it up - you will go far!
Writer of the Week - Jake Tay (Team Kiwi)
