News of the Week
VVSD Spotlight- Maureen Gelin, Bolingbrook HS, School Psychologist
November 11-15 is National School Psychologist Week celebrating the contributions of school psychologists and the important role they play in schools and communities. NSPW is an annual opportunity to recognize school psychologists' work to help children thrive in school, at home, and in life.
In VVSD, our school psychologists are an important part of our Student Services team, and at Bolingbrook HS, Maureen Gelin has served in that role since the current BHS building opened in 2004.
We recently visited with Maureen to talk about the issues and pressures faced by current students, such as the negative effects of social media. We began our discussion by going into the way back machine and asking Maureen to take us back to the day in 1998 when she filled out an application to work with students in VVSD.
VVSD Hiring Now for 2024-25 School Year
VVSD is still hiring for a wide range of positions for the 2024-25 school year with an emphasis on adding to our teams of paraprofessionals, lunchroom/playground aides and special education teachers.
We are also seeking new team members including guest teachers, bus drivers, operations & maintenance, nutrition services, and special education staff.
VVSD’s employment opportunities offer schedules for staff members that are in synchronization with school schedules, making VVSD a great choice for parents who need to have their work schedule match up with the school hours, and Winter and Spring Break for their children. Representatives and corporate chefs from Land O’Lakes visited culinary arts students at Bolingbrook HS on Wed. Oct. 30 to teach students about large scale food service. Part of the presentation was the chefs reviewing with students VVSD Nutrition Services menus and discussing how price point, cost, federal regulations, and consumer preferences all have a role in creating menus. And yes, taste testing of suggestions for future meals was part of the presentation!
Our Facilities and Operations team is starting the final round of mowing before the grass goes dormant for the winter. The baseball field at Lukancic Middle School got what is likely to be the final trim of the season this week.
