ALA Community Update
December 15th, 2024

What's happening at ALA? (PreK-12th Grade Communication)
STUDENT & STAFF HOLIDAY
As a reminder, Friday, December 20th is a student & staff holiday for SAISD. Enjoy the holiday break with your family! We look forward to seeing all students back on Wednesday, January 8th. The overview of school holidays can always be found on our 2024-2025 Instructional Calendar for ALA Euclid and ALA Tech.
SAISD Digital Learning Resources
SAISD District has a Winter Digital Learning Playground available for the holiday break and accessible beginning December 19-January 6. This offers students from PreK-12th grade an opportunity to engage in interactive learning activities, available in both English and Spanish. For more information, visit the Digital Learning Playground flyer linked HERE. The direct link to the Winter Digital Learning Playground can be found HERE.
8th Grade Civil Rights Field Experience
Our 8th graders will be traveling to Alabama on Monday morning as part of their Civil Rights Field Experience. Field trips and travel experiences continue to be a core component of an ALA education, and we could not offer these enriching opportunities without the support of our teachers, families, SAISD and the CAST Network. We wish all our students and teachers a wonderful learning experience in Alabama this week and look forward to their return this upcoming Friday!
10th Grade Puebla, Mexico Trip Thank You
Our 10th graders traveled to Puebla, Mexico this week. Our trip was an unforgettable experience filled with learning, adventure, and cultural exploration! Students attended university classes at UDLAP (Universidad de las Américas Puebla), explored historic sites like the Biblioteca Palafoxiana, and visited iconic landmarks such as the Pirámide de Cholula and the Templo de Santa María Tonantzintla. They embraced every adventure, from walking miles through the city to climbing the world’s largest pyramid by volume.
We are proud of how our students represented ALA with curiosity, respect, and enthusiasm. Thank you for your trust and support in making this incredible learning journey possible!
The Little Mermaid Performance
Our 4th-12th grade students have been working on bringing our production of The Little Mermaid to life since September, and we can’t wait to show you the result of all of their hard work this January! Our amazing student leaders worked creatively and collaboratively to design the set, costumes, lights, sounds, and more! And our incredible performers are ready to share the story of everyone’s favorite mermaid princess with our community! Our show dates are January 10th at 7pm, the 11th at 2pm and 7pm, the 16th, 17th, and 18th at 7pm in the ALA and Cast Tech theatre! Please note that seats will be capped this year in order to ensure seating for all ticket-holders, so please plan to buy your tickets ASAP for all shows to get a seat. This show is appropriate for all ages! Purchase tickets HERE!
Donations for ALA Libraries
Are you cleaning up your bookshelves in anticipation of getting new books this season? The ALA Libraries accept donations of gently used books! Send them in to Ms. Heather and Ms. Sisson and we can find new homes for them. Also, be sure to double check the spines on your shelves and make sure our school library books make it back to our shelves for the break. Happy Winter Reading!
