The Core
December 9, 2022, Volume 14, Issue 16
Hello Parents and Guardians,
I want to take this time to share about the awesome work the PTO is doing. They are pivoting off the pandemic to (1) create creative opportunities for all of our students and (2) support our faculty & staff.
They're putting an Orchard play together for grades 3-5 (see below), they're purchasing a read-aloud book for every 4th and 5th grader (details to follow), and planning for special events this winter & spring (interested in starting a club? Shoot us an email).
You should be part of the team - come join us!
Thanks to everyone who went online to donate to our "Mitten Tree Project". Last week's final push in the Core provided impressive results. I'm looking forward to sharing the final total but let me say thank you for your generosity!
And last but not least - thank you to everyone who baked something for us. The Cookie Extravaganza was awesome and calorie-ific! Speaking only for myself, I've got to get some steps in this weekend!
đź“Ś Next week is our 4th Early Release Day. Student dismissal is at 12:30.
Good Luck to all of our Holiday Ugly Sweater Runners! It's not too late to sign up, see the flyer down below. Have a great weekend; take some time to read with your child. See you at International Night!

PTO News
There is still time to sign up for International Night!
International Night: Thursday, December 15th from 6:00 – 8:00 pm
Families are invited to share what is special about their favorite countries, whether it’s where your family is from or a special place you’ve visited. Posters, photographs, flags, traditional dress, artwork, music, and of course food for sampling are all suggested items (it is no problem to have multiple tables from the same country – that regularly happens and it is great to include a variety of experiences). Please consider bringing a simple dish to serve at your own country table!
SIGN UP via Konstella or via the paper sign-up sheet sent home last Friday!
E-mail Ariel GallantBernstein at nanaakua2004@gmail.com with questions.
Stay up to date: Follow the Orchard PTO on Facebook

More information and sign up & permission slips will be sent home after the break. If you have any questions, please contact orcharddramavt@gmail.com
This Month's Farm-to-School News
Hello South Burlington Families!
This month Common Roots’ Farm to School is bringing back a well-loved lesson: Herbal Teas! We’ve got a whole beautiful array of herbs, generously donated from Railyard Apothecary, that will be carefully selected by your kiddos to make their very own tea blends. Then, we get cozy while our tea steeps…Taking deep breaths, moving into the stretches that our bodies are asking for, and finally listening to a wintery story.
Our senses open up to our herbs as we take in their supportive aroma, , warmth, and flavor:
Peppermint for relaxing muscles… Chamomile for calming the brain… Rose for opening the heart… Oatstraw for nourishing and moistening… Red Clover for its honey sweetness, detoxification, and muscle-toning powers!
Learning about herbs and their powers helps us understand that all food has an effect on our bodies- whether it is a vitamin, mineral, or medicinal constituent- what we choose to nourish our bodies with can be functional, pointed, and honor our sense of dis-ease.
Are you interested in developing an evidenced-based grocery list of food and herbal allies for whatever symptoms you or your loved ones may be facing? From diagnosed nutrition-related illnesses, to food allergies, to digestive discomfort, and much more, healing can be found in food!
Please reach out to me, Kayli O’Donnell, RD if you’re ready to support getting your (or your kiddo’s) body back into balance.
