All of us at Walnut Street Elementary School have so many people and organizations to thank for what was a successful school year. We want to specifically thank the hard working and diligent members of our PTO. Mrs. O'Leary, Mr. Hudson, the members of the PTO Executive, and the countless volunteers worked together to give our students and staff wonderful experiences. Their partnership with our school is something we cherish and is something that we celebrate. Thank you!!!
Planning and preparation for next year is well underway! Every year there are numerous requests by parents for specific teachers. As you know, there are many variables that go into scheduling and student placement. This makes the process challenging related to successfully balancing class sizes and adhering to student programming. While we always will respect parental input with respect to their child’s educational needs, we will be unable to honor parent letters to request a specific teacher for their child. Our goal at Walnut Street is to create balanced classes in which the students will thrive and receive the best education possible. I thank you in advance for your cooperation and support.
If you have moved or if your contact information has changed in any way, please contact our main office. As summer approaches, you will be receiving important school information about the upcoming year. Also, a change of address will likely affect transportation.
Did you play an instrument this year? If you've completed at least one full year of music instrument with your band or orchestra teacher at school, you're eligible for our FREE Summer Instrument Lesson program. Do you love to sing? FREE Vocal lessons are also available this summer. Scan one of the QR codes on the linked flyer to sign up for FREE lessons over the summer. If you have any questions, please reach out to Mrs. Coe, Miss Pak or Mr. Olender (flier below).

Important - Summer Educational Resources and Information
Summer Reading Flier and Available Resources
As we all know, summer is an important time to refresh and recharge. However, it is vitally important to avoid the 'summer slide'. Summer slide is a term used to describe student learning loss during the summer months. At Walnut Street, we want to give you as many resources and materials to avoid student learning loss. Students have access to digital learning platforms such as iReady and Boost Reading.
Setting student family goals to read books over the summer to promote year round literacy is just one way to have students retain reading growth. Math growth can be maintained by doing fun family things over the summer such as cooking, baking, playing various board games, and practicing math facts!
The Ocean County Library has an entire page dedicated to summer reading. Please click this link to their website. There are also incredible summer programs offered. Please take advantage!
Please see the summer reading expectations for Toms River Reginal Schools below.
