Erin's Law
Recently, the Ohio General Assembly enacted Senate Bill 288 which updated the prescribed curriculum for health education to include requirements addressing child sexual abuse prevention, dating violence prevention, and sexual violence prevention. Instruction is to be developmentally age appropriate and provided annually. Students in kindergarten through grade 6 will receive instruction in the prevention of child sexual abuse. Students in grades seven through twelve must receive instruction in the prevention of dating violence and sexual violence. Norton City Schools’ counselors will be responsible to provide such instruction to our students.
Students at NES will receive Child Sexual Abuse Prevention lessons during Enrichment class during the month of April. We understand that there may be circumstances where you would prefer that your child not participate in the required prevention education. Please read the opt out letter below for more information.
Writing Response
Mrs. Campian's third grade class has been busy writing this year. Check out the two stories below.
Where do you love to shop? Kayla Cart loves Five Below. In third grade, students write opinion pieces on topics and support their point of view. Kayla believes Five Below is a “magical place of cheap wonders!” Her teacher, Mrs. Campian, felt that Kayla’s writing was so detailed that she sent it to Five Below’s customer relations department and they loved it, too! Kayla was presented with a $50 gift card, additional gift cards for the classroom, and asked to submit a video reading her opinion so that it could be shared at their district manager meeting. In our opinion, Kayla is not only a great writer, but also an awesome example of a Norton Panther!
After reading and learning about the Cherokee people in their reading textbook, students wrote to a newspaper that was mentioned in the story called The Cherokee Phoenix, located in Oklahoma.. The editor was so moved by the students' writing that he sent a personalized letter to each student with answers to their specific questions. The editor also sent stickers and other swag items to the students and offered to meet by zoom.
3rd and 4th Grade State Testing
All 3rd and 4th grade students will be participating in the spring Ohio State Test in math on April 16-17. Students will take part 1 on Tuesday and part 2 on Wednesday that week. Each test is 75 minutes and completed on the computer. Please make every attempt to be at school on testing days.
Spring Break
Spring break is set to begin Friday, March 29 and will end Friday, April 5. School will resume on Tuesday, April 9 due to school being closed for the solar eclipse (see more information below).
School Closed April 8 - Solar Eclipse
This historic event in our area will impact our school schedule on April 8, 2024. On this day, a solar eclipse is set to occur, providing a unique experience for our community.
In light of this event, and with the safety of our students in mind, we will cancel school on April 8, 2024. We believe that witnessing a solar eclipse can be a memorable experience for our students and families, and we want to ensure that they can do so safely.
To facilitate this experience, and as a precaution, we will be providing all students with appropriate eye protection to observe the eclipse. The safety of our students is our top priority, and these safety measures are in accordance with guidelines recommended by experts in astronomy and eye health.
Thank you for your ongoing support.

The Pacer test measures cardiovascular endurance. The objective is to run as long as possible back and forth across a 20-meter space at a specified pace that gets faster each minute. Ryan achieved a new personal record of 75 laps, while William surpassed him with an outstanding 82 laps for a NEW NES Record.
