MECCA GLEN MEMOS
February 2025
WORDS FOR MR. WALKER
The cold has blown in with the month of February, if you haven’t got the bus app added it is a quick easy way to see if the buses are running. The website will also have the updated bus information as well. Wolf Creek has updated their Inclement Weather Policy which can be found later in the newsletter.
We are hosting our Parent Teacher Interviews on March 6th this year, which is a little later than last year. In the coming weeks there will be two surveys going out for parent feedback. The first is the survey sent out by the provincial government to all parents of Grade 4 and up students, and the second one is a Wolf Creek survey which will be sent to all parents. These surveys are intended to gather feedback on the school culture and your impressions of the teaching/learning that is happening inside the school. We pride ourselves on the services we provide and the culture we have created at the school in welcoming parents/community and hope that you feel welcome when you come to Mecca Glen.
One of the programs I want to highlight is the Orenda program run by Mrs. Norn. We have made some changes this year at the school we think have helped our school culture but the Orenda program has been a big part in the positive change we have seen. The program works on helping students recognize and decipher their emotions as well as work through various social situations. The class provides a safe space for the students to share what's on their mind and heart. Since the implantation of Orenda we have seen the number of social conflicts decrease significantly amongst students. Our staff has made an effort to work hard at building positive connections with students and our goal is that 100% of students feel connected to at least one staff member.
I want to thank the Mecca Glen Fundraising Society and all our parents who sold/purchased Cash Raffle tickets. It was sold out again and a big shout out goes to the winners, thank you for supporting our school through your purchase. We have an active parent Council as well and had three volunteers who represented our parent group at the recent Wolf Creek Stakeholders Meeting. Feedback from all stakeholders will be used to determine direction and strategies for our next Division 4 year plan.
As always if you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to call, email or drop by the school.
