Goodbye October, Happy November!
As a mother first, and a leader second, it pains my heart to think of the current state of violence happening in schools around the world. I would be remiss if I didn’t mention how I was shaken to my core when I learned of the devastating news in St. Louis, and our neighboring district, Gwinnett County. I am bothered by the fact that this is becoming a common recurrence. I am seeking to find peace as a building leader and there is no peace. We must remain resilient and steadfast in ensuring the safety of our staff, students and constituents. I do, however, find comfort in knowing that our School’s Safety Team and the district are continuing to review safety on a daily basis, and investing in the safety of our district and school. I recently shared during Safe Schools Week that we have allocated funding to assist our team with improving the safety of our school. We are looking forward to sharing with you the final proposed action items. The School Governance Council will vote on the allocated funding in November. The additional purchases (increased cameras for improved monitoring, improved lighting, identification badges, locked entry doors, alarm doors, etc.) will improve and add value to our current safety parameters. Please remain attentive, hold steadfast to expectations, and make no excuses for safety! It is a top priority!
This month will mark the 13.5-week mark, semester 1 of our calendar year. Time is passing by rather expeditiously. It’s a perfect time for the instructional team to stop and reflect on our academic outcomes for students. Effective instructional leaders ensure high quality instruction in all classrooms, establishing structures that reduce the variability in the quality of instruction across these classrooms. The following components ensure highly effective outcomes for our students: instructional planning, perfect practice, and data-analysis. We also have a focus on removing barriers to the learning process. This month, I will focus on specific questions for our instructional leaders and teachers, which are intended to prompt deep reflection on the learning and teaching process.

National School Psychology Week
During the week of November 7-11, 2022 schools throughout DoDEA will celebrate National School Psychology Awareness Week to highlight the important work our school psychologists and other educators do to help all students thrive.
This year's theme is "Let’s Get in GEAR." (Grow, Engage, Advocate, Rise). The theme’s acronym provides a challenge to grow both personally and professionally. It encourages us to engage in best practices and advocatefor children’s access to mental health and learning supports. To rise implies resilience and renewal despite the challenges of the past.
This theme has a particular resonance this year as we work to help students, families, and school staff emerge from the challenges of the past year and a half. When we get in gear, we move together. When one gear moves, the gears connected to it move as well. When we move together there is a positive synergy that builds and becomes greater than any single effort.
Election Day! November 8, 2022
Registered voters in Georgia can cast their ballots in person on Election Day.

Will students attend school on Election Day?
No, students will work remotely; guidance is provided by the teacher. Teachers will provide guidance to all students, no later than November 7, 2022.
Will the school building remain open?
No, the school will not open on Tuesday, November 8, 2022. The school will serve as a polling site and is open for public voting, only limited operations are accessible on Election Day.
Veterans Day! November 11, 2022
History of Veterans Day
World War I – known at the time as “The Great War” - officially ended when the Treaty of Versailles was signed on June 28, 1919, in the Palace of Versailles outside the town of Versailles, France. However, fighting ceased seven months earlier when an armistice, or temporary cessation of hostilities, between the Allied nations and Germany went into effect on the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month. For that reason, November 11, 1918, is generally regarded as the end of “the war to end all wars.”
Recovery/Major Assignments (Formerly known as Exams): December 14-16
December 14, 15, and 16 are half-days for students (8:20-12:30): Recovery work-or-major assignments are scheduled. (1) December 14: First and Second Period (2) December 15: Third and Fourth Period (3) December 16: Fifth and Sixth Period
Students are eligible to exempt the final major or minor assignment administered during the semester 1 recovery/major assignment if the following criteria is met:
Grade of 70 or higher in the course at the date where an exemption is eligible, without the addition of any quality points.
No ISS or OSS for the semester.
No administratively addressed issues of Academic Dishonesty for the semester.
Students who wish to be exempt will be required to submit an electronic form using the Exemption-Approved QR Code by the communicated deadline. (the teacher will provide the student with the QR Code access, once approved).
There is not an administrative appeals policy.

This week of Student Success Skills lessons will focus on Goal Setting. Encouraging students to set their own goals helps students build self-awareness of their priorities.
From ReThinkEd: “Goal setting is the process of determining an end goal and the steps necessary to achieve the goal. Setting goals helps students zero in on what is most important to them and provides the pathway to realizing their dreams. When we encourage students to set their own goals, it empowers them to take ownership and responsibility for their goals. By making the goal setting process explicit, we help students break large, in tangible goals into small manageable steps that can be reached. Goal setting provides motivation and encourages self-regulation.”

The Georgia Student Finance Commission is collaborating with 40 Georgia colleges and universities to waive college application fees in November, which is Georgia’s “Apply to College Month.” On average, a college application fee is about $50.

Online School Payments: School Fees!
Welcome to the Fulton County Schools Online School Payments (OSP) portal. This service is provided to parents and community members to facilitate payment for school fees for a variety of products and services. For further information or to request additional information, please contact the main office. As part of the onetime setup of your student account, you will need to enter the student ID number. This number is indicated on your student’s report card and is also used in the cafeteria line. While some purchases are not specifically for students and may not require the ID number, in most cases you will also need the student ID number to complete the transaction. If you have questions regarding the student ID number, please reach out to your school’s front office.
