November is Family Engagement Month
What is family engagement and why is it important?
Family engagement is a practice in which families* and school personnel collaborate to support and improve the learning and development of children.
Family engagement is all about working together—schools, families, and communities—to help kids thrive both in school and in life. It’s a partnership that starts when they’re young and grows all the way through high school.
Family engagement matters because it:
- Boosts academic success
- When families are involved in their child's education, kids do better in school.
- Builds stronger connections
- It creates lasting, meaningful relationships between families, schools, and the wider community.
- Supports emotional growth
- Engaging families helps nurture kids' emotional well-being, making learning more complete.
