What is family engagement and why is it important?

Family engagement is a practice in which families* and school personnel collaborate to support and improve the learning and development of children.

Family engagement is all about working together—schools, families, and communities—to help kids thrive both in school and in life. It’s a partnership that starts when they’re young and grows all the way through high school.

Family engagement matters because it:

• Boosts academic success
• When families are involved in their child's education, kids do better in school.
• Builds stronger connections
• It creates lasting, meaningful relationships between families, schools, and the wider community.
• Supports emotional growth
• Engaging families helps nurture kids' emotional well-being, making learning more complete.

October was packed with exciting events! We kicked off the month with our PBIS Celebration and wrapped it up with Red Ribbon Week. Hispanic Heritage Month was a highlight with our festive parade, and we also held our “Behind the Scenes at the Library” event, which is always a favorite. It’s hard to believe the first 9 weeks are already over—just three more to go! This month, we also celebrated our first Hoodie Ceremony, the inaugural Mighty Mustang Recognition, and introduced the Blue and White Ceremony to honor students on the Honor Roll. Fall movie night and Trunk or Treat added even more fun to the month. Here’s to a wonderful November filled with meaningful moments together this holiday season!
