The Dentist Is Coming 1/24/25!
Our school has arranged for a dentist to come right to the school. Students will be seen on Friday, January 24, 2025. By seeing the in-school dentist, you can keep your child healthy, in school, and learning. Plus, it’s easy and convenient for you.
Simply click the button below to be re-directed to the on-line registration form. Paper registration forms will come home with your child upon their return in January. *PLEASE NOTE: ONLY STUDENTS WHO HAVE COMPLETED THE REGISTRATION ONLINE OR HAVE TURNED IN A PAPER REGISTRATION FORM WILL BE SEEN.
Happening In The Halls
PE Fun For The Holidays!
Our last couple weeks of PE have been very eventful! We participated in cup stacking relays as part of an attempt to set the world record for most people cup stacking in one day. We played some fun parachute games that involved teamwork! And we played some Thanksgiving games like stuff the turkey, turkey hunt, thankful tag, and Thanksgiving feast where students drive their shopping cart (pictured) to collect items for their feast.
Learning Our Letters...... And Cleaning!
RTI teacher Aggie Kurzman works with young fivers to learn to make their letters. So fun and their desks were cleaned as well.
Christmas Chickens?!?
Nothing says Christmas better than these cute Christmas chickens made by students in Mrs. Stanton's RTI group!
Unexpected PJ Match!
Staff were on the same wavelength for PJ day on Monday! Mrs. Roelofs, Ms. Green and Mrs. Stevens all wore matching pajamas! I guess great minds really do think alike!
Secret Santa Shop
Dorr Elementary PTO hosted their annual Secret Santa Shop. This shop allows our students to pick out gifts for their families to give on Christmas Day! It is a highly anticipated event and students are so proud as they watch the volunteers wrap the gifts that they themselves picked out to give their family on Christmas morning!
Shop With A Cop
2 students from Dorr Elementary were chosen to shop with an officer from the Michigan State Police Department as part of their annual "Shop With A Cop" event. The students were treated to a lunch, shopping time to pick out special gifts for their families, and a ride in a real Michigan State Police cruiser! It was a great way to spend a fun day!

My Child Is Sick. What Do I Do?
The cold and flu season is approaching. Dorr Elementary is already seeing an influx of sickness in the classrooms. Please help us stop the spread of these nasty viruses by following these guidelines.
- If you need to call your student in ill, it is helpful if you give a brief list of symptoms, rather than "my student is sick". Reporting symptoms helps us identify possible outbreaks.
- Please keep your student home if they have a fever. Students are welcome to return to school once they are fever free without medication for 24 hours.
- Please keep your student home if they are vomiting or have diarrhea. Students are welcome to return once they are vomit/ diarrhea free without the use of medication for 24 hours.
Attendance Questions Explained

Please contact Food Service for questions.
Students are expected to be in their seats, ready to learn by 8:50am each day. Students who arrive AFTER 8:50am but BEFORE 9:05am will be marked as AM TARDY. Students who arrive AFTER 9:05am will be marked as 1/2 day AM ABSENT.
Students are expected to complete the school day at 3:50pm. Students who need to be picked up between 3:30pm and 3:49pm will be marked as PM TARDY. Students leaving BEFORE 3:30pm will be marked as 1/2 day PM ABSENT.
If your student is ill, please contact the office to report their absence. It is helpful if you report the students symptoms as it helps us identify break outs of illnesses across classrooms and grades.
Students who are absent will be coded as follows:
Unexcused absence: Students who are absent for illness or other reason, and parent has notified the office will be marked as unexcused absence. The reason for absence will be noted.
Unknown absence: Students who are absent and the office has received no communication from parent/guardian will be marked as unknown absence.
Excused absence: Students who are absent and return with a doctors note that includes the dates/times the student is to be excused, will be marked as excused absence.
Students who obtain 5 & 7 unexcused or unknown absences during the school year will receive a letter from the school bringing the absences to your attention.
Students who obtain 10 unexcused and/or unknown absences during the year will be asked to meet with the principal and may be subject to truancy. Wayland Union Schools district policy outlining attendance can be found in the student handbook.
