Testing and Assessment Update
Welcome to WAVA Alyson Kerley as our WAVA Assessment Coordinator.
Alyson graduated with a bachelor's degree in history from Texas A&M University, and is currently pursuing her master’s degree in online education from Southern New Hampshire University. She has worked in education for 7 years, starting her career as a brick & mortar teacher in middle school and growing into an administrative role in online education with Stride. Her passion for education extends beyond her professional life. She is an avid reader, a curious learner, and is constantly seeking new opportunities to expand her knowledge and skills. She firmly believe that education is the key to unlocking one's full potential and is committed to sharing this belief with others. When not working, you can find Alyson gardening or hanging around the homestead with her husband, 2 children, 1 dog, 25 chickens, 6 goats, 4 sheep – and the list continues to grow.
Washington students in grades 3-8 and 10 take in-person state assessments in English/Language Arts and Mathematics. Students in grades 5, 8, and 11 also take an in-person exam in Science. Students in Grades 11 and 12 who have not previously passed the ELA and Math exams are also allowed to attempt them again to meet graduation assessment pathway requirements. WAVA will administer the spring tests between April 24 and May 19, 2023.
WAVA offers 30 testing sites across the state to ensure that you will not have to travel more than one hour to attend any required exams. The attached 2022-2023 Family State Testing Guide contains a list of all the cities where we have testing sites in Appendix D. If have any conflicts with your assigned site, this list can help you determine if another site may be more convenient for you.
Before we can schedule students for testing, the first step is to confirm that you are assigned to a testing site that is reasonable based on where you live. This is your opportunity to review the location we plan on scheduling your testing, and either lock it in or request a change based on your needs.
On Friday, December 2nd, emails will begin to go out from tntesting@wava.org asking you to review and confirm your assigned spring testing site. Please take a moment to review your site and confirm it. Use the list in Appendix D of the 2022-2023 Family State Testing Guide to review other locations if needed. Select Agree if the site is fine. If you need to request a change, select Do Not Agree and add a note listing your preferred location or change request. Your comments will be reviewed and we will work with you to make sure you are assigned at an appropriate site.
Please save a copy of the attached 2022-2023 Family State Testing Guide. This manual is for your reference and contains a lot of helpful information about how state testing is scheduled and provided at our school.
