Old Coors Elementary Pre K-4
Week of March 18
FROM PRINCIPAL JONES
I hope everyone enjoyed the Thanksgiving holiday. As usual, please take a moment to review this month’s entire newsletter, which includes important reminders, requests, and updates; December and January dates to note; and contact information for each child's teachers and co-teachers.
Here’s what you need to know:
1. Toys
Toys are not allowed at MAS. Recently, there has been an increase in the number of toys brought to school by students. Trading cards, toys, and similar items should remain at home. These items will be confiscated by teachers and administrators if students are found with them. Toys distract students and can create conflicts when they are lost, stolen, or damaged.
- First confiscation: Toys will be returned to students at the end of the school day.
- Additional confiscations: Guardians will need to come to school to sign out the items from administration.
We appreciate your cooperation in helping us maintain a focused and productive learning environment.
2. Nutrition Expectations
Please remember that MAS does not allow students to bring large bags of chips to school. This continues to be an issue. Moving forward, if students are found with large bags of chips, the bags will be held for retrieval at the end of the day.
Below is a reminder of our nutrition expectations, originally shared with families at the start of the 2024–2025 school year:
Students are not permitted to bring bags of chips larger than a snack size (maximum capacity of 1.5 ounces) or chips in a resealable bag with maximum dimensions of 6-1/2" x 3-1/4".
This policy is designed to:
- Encourage students to eat school-provided meals that meet State of New Mexico nutrition guidelines.
- Reduce classroom disruptions caused by students sharing and consuming large quantities of chips during the morning program and lunch service.
If a student brings a bag of chips larger than the specified size, it will be collected by MAS staff and held for retrieval at the end of the day.
We appreciate your understanding and support as we encourage healthy habits and minimize distractions in our school environment.
Sincerely,
Mr. Chris Jones, MS, M.Ed.
