Counseling News
We are approaching the end of Trimester 1!! The last day of the trimester is in just 11 school days, on November 22.
Hopefully you and your student were able to attend conferences last week.
Students, as we are approaching the end of the trimester, please be sure to be studying for any finals you may have for your classes. This is also a great time to be looking at your grades and taking care of missing work that is still being collected.
Credit Recovery is up and running at CP! Students, if there is a required class that is needed for graduation, please be sure to see your school counselor to make a plan on how to make this class up!
What is up and coming?????
Grade 9: As Freshmen become more acclimated to our building and our daily schedules, we also encourage them to become acquainted with the resources available to them in the areas of academic support, social-emotional support, and college and career support.
All school counselors are now located in the Student Support Office, located on the first floor of our school, and are here to service students and families.
Grade 10: Sophomores will be receiving information in classes from school counselors and other support staff around goal setting, career choices, and classes to take moving forward to assist in achieving those goals. In addition, they will take an interest inventory to help guide this process.
Grade 11: Last week in Advisement, Juniors learned about SCOIR, a platform that will help them to navigate the college search and application process. Options for test preparation were also covered and available through MCIS.
Grade 12: Seniors are encouraged to continue to utilize their SCOIR accounts when navigating the college search process and applying to their schools of choice. It is here that they will request to have transcripts sent to colleges.

IB
One of our IB Learner Profile words is "communicator". We want students to understand and express ideas and information confidently and creatively in a variety of modes. When students are communicators they work effectively and willingly in collaboration with others. We want to wish all our IB Students luck as they finish up tri 1 of the school year! Use your communication skills, talk to your teachers or the IB Coordinators about concerns and know we are here to support you. Please contact Ashley Brown (ashley.brown@ahschools.us) with any questions about the IB Program.
IB...Did you Know?
We want students to enjoy stretching themselves and reaping the rewards of doing that hard work to close their learning gaps. I heard a quote recently from a teacher at a conference: “We cannot teach students everything, so we need to teach them so they are ready for anything.”
This is so true. That’s why we need to come together and think through how we help our students not only learn the content but develop the lifelong skill of powerful reading, writing and critical thinking that will continue to serve them well beyond school. This is what the IB program does for students, it gives them the skills to be successful no matter the challenges they face!

Student Deliveries
A reminder to Parents/Guardians who are dropping items off for their student at the security window inside door E3. Please place items in a bag so items do not get lost or misplaced. Special Education Advisory Council Resource Information Night set for Nov.14
The Anoka-Hennepin Schools Special Education Advisory Council (SEAC) is hosting a resource information night for families of students with special needs to learn about resources available in the community. Vendors for sports, camps, and community services will be in attendance.
When: Thursday, Nov. 14 from 6-7:30 p.m.
Where: Educational Service Center, 2727 N Ferry St., Anoka. Enter through Door 7 and meet in Erling Johnson rooms C and D.
Families will be able to speak with various vendors at stations that will be set up in the rooms.
The SEAC intends to provide tools and resources to help guardians of children receiving special education services and collaborate with the district to promote continuous growth of special education services to best meet the needs of students. Members serve as representatives of district learners with disabilities from birth through age 22. SEAC strives to promote, educate and share resources between families, schools, and communities.
The council is a partnership between parents/guardians and the school district and meets four times (three in person and one virtual) during the school year.
Winter weather reminders
Minnesota weather is shifting gears, and the Anoka-Hennepin School District has plans in place for when extreme winter weather arrives.
The safety of all students is the first priority when determining if schools should stay open in adverse weather. If a determination is made to close school due to extreme winter weather, the district will alert families in a variety of ways, including:
Text and email message from #AHSchools. (For parents/guardians only.)
District and school websites.
District and school social media pages (e.g. Facebook, Instagram and Twitter).
Media outlets including WCCO, KSTP, FOX 9, KARE 11, CCX Media, WCCO radio and Star Tribune newspaper.
Those responsible for activities scheduled in schools over the weekend will determine if adverse weather conditions necessitate a cancellation.
Read more about the district’s policies on extreme winter weather at ahschools.us/weather.
