CBC YOUTH MINISTRY
Overview
Vision & Mission
We exist to glorify God by making disciples of all people through Gospel truths and Gospel living. Our hope is to equip all youth to love God with all their heart, soul and mind as well as loving their neighbor, community and church.
Our hope in life and death is found in the person and promise of Jesus Christ. It is His mission and His instructions we follow for the "good life" here on earth - to love God and to love others; to make disciples who make disciples; and to be the salt of the earth & the light of the world. Our youth ministry is defined by Christ, grounded in Scripture, and lived out in every sphere of influence through our students, our parents, and our youth leaders.
We are not merely a youth program or an event center. We are purposefully here to know the goodness of the Gospel and to live in such a way where it changes us and all that come into contact with us. Subsequently, all of our programming, events, philosophies in the youth ministry aim to fulfill our goals.
Our Core Values
Our CORE VALUES establishes the basis of all our ministry. Our foundation for the entire ministry begins with Scripture and we ask, "What are the core instructions Jesus asks of his followers?" We want to stay in line with what Jesus expects his church and his people to do so these 7 (seven) core values are what we found to be universally true for all Christians in all spaces in all time.
It is from these 7 core values that we plan and program the rest of our ministry. We also want to be continue to understand and refine our theology with regards to these topics as well. For example, as we combed through the pages of Scripture, our understanding of "missions" didn't change necessarily, but it did mature and develop.
Elements of Youth Ministry
There are many different understandings of what youth ministry is and what youth ministry ought to be. What we want to propose for the youth ministry here at CBC is a few things:
1. Gospel Centrality: The Gospel shapes, informs, and directs every facet of the ministry and we want to be unapologetically clear that this is our main identity. This Good News beautifully invades every aspect of the Christian life - heart, mind, and actions. It is confrontational at times while it seeks to remove our desires from lesser loves. It is soothing at times while it seeks to minister to the broken and hurting. It provides hope, joy, and instruction.
2. Contextually Engaged: We want to minister to our students (and families) where they are at, not where we perceive them to be. We recognize that we are ministering to students who are marked by the technological revolution, post-Christian worldview, sexual revolution, post-COVID, and are a part of Generation Z (and much more). Each of these markers form and shape students, families, and their worlds. We want to be situationally aware in order to meet our people where they are at with the hope of the Gospel.
3. Layers upon Layers: The landscape of youth ministry has drastically changed over the past few decades. Whereas youth ministry has historically been seen as a placeholder for Christians, a babysitting venue, or a moralistic therapy institution, we at CBC believe it is wildly different. For us, we want to see youth ministry with different conjoining layers. These would include:
- Biblical Church Membership
- Family Discipleship
- Counseling
Rhythms, Programs, and Structure
Programs
Youth Ministry Registration
Registration: We ask that all students who are interested in attending (and belonging) to CBC Youth Ministry officially register using our application form below. It is open to ANYONE who wishes to participate in our programs and direction under the pastor care of the youth pastor and leaders. This form only records your personal contact information, consent because youth are under 18yrs old, and expectations of the ministry.
What does registration mean/do?
- The student wants to participate in the youth ministry on a regular basis
- The students understands what the youth ministry is about (purpose and expectations)
- The student understands the benefits and responsibilities of belonging to the youth group
- The student & parents will receive constant communication from the youth group (concerning events, details, discipleship, and follow-up)
- The parent understands the nature of the youth ministry and their responsibility.
- The parent consents to liability waivers

MEANINGFUL YOUTH MEMBERSHIP
A foundational element of our youth group depends on how we understand meaningful membership. The idea of membership allows us to focus our programming, vision, direction in a healthy manner.
- The members of a church should be Christians (Acts 2:41, 47; Rom. 1:7, 1 Cor. 1:2). While our hope is that all students feel loved and welcome in this youth group, we qualify those who are confessing Christian and those who have willfully submitted themselves to the church through baptism to be members of the church. We acknowledge that everyone who shows up to the youth is valuable, not all are members (yet).
- We believe that church membership is simply a church’s responsibility to disciple the Christian and hold the Christian accountable for what they have personally professed as a disciple of Jesus. Membership also has to do with the Christian belonging and serving the community in which they are a member.
- The members of a church should have certain biblical privileges and responsibilities. The members of a local church are in mutual accountability to those that lead, feed, and care for them. A member gets the privilege to be under the care and protection of a shepherd/pastor.
- They also have the responsibility to:
- Attendance and participation
- Pray for the church
- Be in transparent relationships with other church members in which they care for, encourage, rebuke, teach and learn from each other (Eph. 4:15-16)
- Submit to the church’s leadership and teaching (Heb. 13:17)
- Promote unity in the body (Eph. 4:3)
- Financially support the church’s ministry (Gal. 6:6).Use the spiritual gifts God has given them to build up the body however they can (1 Cor. 12:7)
Parent Ministry & Family Discipleship
Youth ministry is impossible without the active involvement and partnership of their parents. It's our goal to never become the primary discipler in our youth's lives, but instead to equip, enable and empower parents to lead gospel-centered families.
