Hood Traditions / History - Give Your Heart to Hood Day
One of Hood’s more recent traditions, Give Your Heart to Hood Day started in 1995 to bring students, staff and faculty together to celebrate Hood. It began with an afternoon of small group discussions amongst students, faculty, and staff to exchange thoughts and ideas; thoughts about what made the College great and ideas to improve the campus environment. Topics covered included campus resources, wellness, food and safety. Often the day’s program would conclude a fun group activity, as in 1997 when the Sweet Honey in the Rock, an a cappella group based in Washington, D.C. performed songs about relevant social issues.
The program was revamped in 2000 after concerns about the productivity of the day’s group discussions. The new design featured group activities, such as arts and crafts, a wellness fair, team building exercises and campus improvement projects. Ultimately, the primary objective of Give Your Heart to Hood Day is to bring our hearts, minds, and hands together through meaningful projects that will benefit the campus community.
Institutional Advancement - Employee Giving Program
From Niccole Rolls, director of annual giving:
Thank you for all you do for Hood College!
Your gift to Hood is essential. It supports scholarships, enrichment, athletics and so much more. Did you know your gift gives Hood an edge when applying for grants? And that it inspires giving from the greater Frederick community? Without your gift, a Hood education would be out of reach for many students.
Your gift to The Hood Fund, via hood.edu/give, check or payroll deduction, shows your commitment to students, alumni and each other. To each of you who give, thank you. If you have not yet included Hood in your annual giving plans, please consider a gift today.
I would love to talk with you about your philanthropic goals and how gifts of all sizes matter. Call 301-696-3717 or email rolls@hood.edu me to learn more.
Do you have news you would like to share with our Hood Community?
