Principal's Message
Good Evening WHS Community,
As we head into May the calendar is packed with senior events, awards ceremonies, and many athletic events. Take a moment to look at our calendar below to keep up to date on all events.
Our Asian Student Alliance (ASA) club held a book drive throughout the year to purchase children's books that contained diverse Asian characters and families. ASA delivered these books to the primary schools this week in celebration of Asian/Pacific American heritage month and were able to read to many classes.
Our SkillsUSA team had a successful State competition last weekend with medals in many competitions.
This past week we celebrated our juniors who were inducted into the National Honor Society and World Language Honor Society. Our seniors were honored for their continued dedication to Scholarship, Service, Leadership, and Character.
Our Advanced Placement classes will be sitting for their national test over the next two weeks. The tests are the culmination of year-long Advanced Placement courses. Our students are ready and we wish them well in their exams.
This week we have much to be grateful for. Tuesday, May 7th will mark Teacher Appreciation Day. Our educators have a long-lasting impact on our students, helping them develop not only skills to be successful in life but also develop relationships that build students' confidence and self-efficacy. Thank you teachers!
On May 8th, we will celebrate our nurses on School Nurse Appreciation Day. Our school nurses are always there to provide care and promote the health and safety of all of our students. Thank you nurses!
Last Friday, May 3rd was Lunch Heroes Day! Thank you to all of our food service workers for ensuring our students have breakfast and lunch available to them every school day!
May is Mental Health Awareness Month. Through our partnership with the JED Foundation and our Active Minds club, we will be working to change the conversation around mental health. Staff, students, and families will learn about the various supports that exist to help members of our school community dealing with mental health issues to promote their well-being. All staff and students are encouraged to wear green on Thursdays for the month of May to help spread awareness. If you or someone you know is experiencing a mental health crisis, please call or chat the crisis lifeline at 988.
Our senior events kick off this week with our Senior Prom on Friday, May 10th, join us at the maroon entrance by the tennis court for our Pre-Prom red carpet event. Our students will begin to load the buses at 6:00 PM to enjoy their night at the Marriott in Quincy.
We do want to share some information on a non-sponsored senior activity called Senior Assassin. This is a game that seniors put together as a pre-graduation tradition at schools across the State. Many local communities have put an end to this game. The use of water guns in this activity can be misinterpreted and cause a reaction that may put students in harm. We encourage parents to have a conversation with their students about the potential danger of using a fake gun in public. Again Weymouth High School does not condone this activity.
Have a great week!
