MESSAGE FROM OUR SCHOOL COUNSELOR
Counselor Caboodle
Hi! My name is Summer Ash. This is my 2nd year at Star Elementary and 4th year as a counselor. Prior to counseling, I was a teacher for 22 years. Over the course of the year, I will be teaching your student(s) lessons approximately once a month during library specials time. I will also be starting small groups for kids who may benefit from a peer group experience. Group topics will be chosen based on need. I have an office in the main hallway where students can drop in or fill out a request slip to see me if they are having a hard day. I love being a school counselor and truly enjoy helping and getting to know students. I am excited for the new school year, and I hope our Star families are too.
Please feel free to contact me at any time via phone or email with questions or concerns. I look forward to meeting you! ash.summer@westada.org or 208-855-4110

STUDENT DROP OFF & PICK UP
When dropping off your student in the morning, please use the drop-off lane in front of the school (in front of the new addition). Please pull all the way forward to drop your child off between the asphalt drive and the front of the drop-off lane. If students are dropped off as we enter the parking lot, it is a safety concern. Please have everything ready to go and say your goodbyes quickly, otherwise our drop off lane will get backed up onto Star Road. See photo map below.
If you want to walk your child up to the school doors, you will need to park in a parking space or across the street in the park. Please use crosswalks when walking your child across the street and parking lot. All goodbyes will need to be said outside.
When picking up your student at the end of the day, students and parents should have a prearranged and agreed upon location to meet. If you use the pick-up lane (same as the drop-off lane) you must pull all the way forward and remain in your car and meet your student at your car between the asphalt drive and the front of the pick-up lane. Traffic can get backed up all the way to State Street, so we must be diligent in following our procedures. See photo map below.
If you would like to walk up to meet them, please park in a parking space in the school parking lot or in the park across the street. For the safety of our students the city of Star, ACHD, Ada County Sheriff’s Department and the school ask that we do not park on Star Road in front of the school or between the school and the new subdivision immediately to our north.
If you have a change in the way your child(ren) are getting home, please call the office before 3:15pm. The office gets extremely busy at the end of the day, and we cannot guarantee to get a message to students after 3:15pm.

WALKING ROUTE
West Ada has revised the Cell Phone and Electronic Device Policy. Please read the following information to understand the policy. You can also find the policy through the West Ada website or by clicking this link: View Administrative Regulation 0502.80-AR(1): Cell Phone and Personal Electronic Devices - - AR(01) (eboardsolutions.com)
Purpose: This Administrative Regulation aims to establish robust guidelines for implementing policy 502.80 – Cell Phone and Personal Electronic Devices. It strictly prohibits the use of cell phones and personal electronic devices during instructional periods unless explicitly authorized and mandates that students not have cell phones or other personal electronic devices on their person to minimize distractions and cultivate an undistracted learning atmosphere.
Scope: This regulation is applicable to all students within the West Ada School District.
Devices must be powered off before being placed in the Designated Storage Area. This practice promotes an environment conducive to academic engagement and reduces disruptions. Teachers may opt to designate a responsible student or establish a rotation system for collecting devices, ensuring a smooth and timely process while fostering a sense of accountability among students for their belongings.
Smartwatches and other wearables are specifically exempted from the requirement to be placed in a "Designated Storage Area", but must be powered down during instructional time. Any use of or distractions created as a result of powered wearable devices will be subject to disciplinary action.
Exceptions: Occasionally, teachers may permit the limited use of electronic devices strictly for educational purposes during class/instructional time, provided that clear guidelines are communicated to students. In cases of emergency necessitating immediate access to electronic devices, the teacher may address them on a case-by-case basis, exercising discretion. It's important to note that this Administrative Regulation does not pertain to school-issued tablets or laptops, nor to equipment specified in an individual student's Individualized Education Plan (IEP), English Learning Plan (ELP), 504 Plan, Health Services Plan, or any other health accommodations.
