Hilltopper Community,
It was great to have the hallways and classrooms full of parents last night for our annual Back-to-School Open House. I hope that those who were able to attend enjoyed a taste of the student experience. I want to reiterate just two things from my welcome remarks.
First, thank you to those who volunteered on Tuesday for our Young Hearts for Life event. With your help, we were able to provide free ECG screenings to 1,320 students. As I mentioned last night, it really took the whole Glenbard West community to make this happen, and I was in awe of the support we received from over two hundred volunteers.
Second, Glenbard West is very lucky to have several parent groups whose mission is to support our students and help us run programs throughout the school: Boosters, West Nation, Association of Music Parents, and Friends for Forensics. I highly encourage you to get involved with one or more of these groups to whatever extent you are able.
The staff parking lot on Ellyn Ave is experiencing heavy car traffic from parents—both those using it as a drop-off or pick-up and those using it as a turnabout. This traffic is making it difficult for staff to enter and exit the lot, and I am concerned about pedestrian safety with the additional car traffic. Therefore, we ask that parents not use our staff parking lot for drop-off in the morning or pick-up in the afternoon. This includes not using the parking lot as a turnabout. The safest and most efficient place to drop off or pick up students is Crescent Blvd, in front of the school on either side of the street. Not only are there parking lanes and a turnabout, there are also identified crosswalks for students. I very much appreciate your cooperation with this so that we can maintain a safe campus before and after school.
In this month’s newsletter, you’ll meet Glenbard West’s newest staff members and find information on state testing, parent-teacher conferences, and this year’s Homecoming festivities (September 27th and 28th). There are so many fun ways for West families to get involved in our Homecoming traditions—including joining us for the pep rally and bonfire on Friday night, the pancake breakfast and parade on Saturday morning, and the athletic competitions and performances throughout the day.
As always, thank you for reading. Please feel free to contact me directly with any questions or concerns.
Go West!

Parent-Teacher Conferences: Wednesday, October 23rd and Thursday, October 24th
Please save the date(s) for this year’s Parent-Teacher Conferences. Like last year, families will have two options for conferences: virtual conferences through Zoom on Wednesday, October 23rd from 4:00 until 8:00pm and in-person conferences at Glenbard West on Thursday, October 24th from 2:00 until 6:00pm. Students will be released at 1:00pm on both conference days. There is no school on Friday, October 25th. Information about registering for conferences will be sent out in mid-September.
State Testing Information
It is important to note that, beginning in the 2024-25 school year, the state of Illinois will require students to take the school-day ACT as a graduation requirement. This will necessitate some changes to the testing calendar for the class of 2026:
Friday, October 25, 2024: Optional PSAT/NMSQT. Students will be required to complete this opt-in survey before Friday, August 30th to ensure testing materials can be ordered before the deadline. There is no additional cost for this exam.
Tuesday, October 29, 2024: Practice ACT for Juniors. Students will be automatically registered at no additional cost.
Wednesday, April 9, 2025: preACT testing for freshmen and sophomores.
Thursday, April 10, 2025: School-day ACT for Juniors. Students will be automatically registered at no additional cost.
We are confident this plan will help students to both prepare for the ACT in their Junior year and understand their own strengths in the knowledge and skill targets that are central to the exam. Both the ACT and SAT are aligned with Glenbard West’s curricula.

GO WEST!
A MESSAGE FROM THE DEANS' OFFICE
Mr. Billone, Ms. Blackmon, and Mrs. Meister-Norton are thrilled to be back for another year on the hill working with you and your students. The school has been absolutely electric these past few weeks.
Although there have been some significant changes at West this year, the Deans Office would like to revisit some important information that will help make this year run smoothly for you and the students.
First, attendance is the most important factor to your student’s success at West. Being at West whenever possible and being on time not only gives your student the best chance for success in the classroom, it also helps us to create the best school environment and community. Our school is a better place when your student is here.
If your student is absent, please call the attendance line at (630) 858-5060 by 10:30. The voicemail box is always active, so feel free to call anytime prior to 10:30.
Secondly, we have tremendous students doing incredible things in the hallways and classrooms, in the fields, courts, and stages, and everywhere in between. We also have tremendous students doing incredible things beyond the school, and the Dean’s Office wants to hear about it! If your student or a student you know recently accomplished something spectacular, is contributing to the community, volunteering, or anything else you believe is noteworthy, please complete this Google form and let us know about it so we can share it with the community and give them the recognition they deserve!
Before we wrap up, we’d love to welcome Rory Charles Norton to the Hilltopper family and officially welcome Mrs. Meister-Norton back from her maternity leave. Congrats!
