Many of our videos are translated, and auto-translate is a permanent feature on YouTube, accessible in the settings options. Leyden is also using a “Translation Icon” on printed pieces and for some events, where our families can scan and connect with us in their preferred language. Check out all of our translation services in our video series.
Crisis Communications - The safety and security of our students and staff is our top priority. If an urgent situation arises, our first action is to secure the humans in our buildings and get them each to safety. Quickly following, families can expect to receive information by phone, text, and email as appropriate. Please ensure contact information is up-to-date in our systems if a family relocates or changes phone numbers or emails.
Please email us directly at PR@Leyden212.org if you have any suggestions that might help us improve our communication efforts.
Leyden utilizes text messaging system for family communications
Communication between families and teachers is one of the best ways to help our students succeed in school. At Leyden, we have a system called Talking Points that provides an opportunity for text connections between teachers and parents/guardians.
Of the many benefits of this system, one of the most important is the ability to translate messages into the languages selected by our families during the enrollment process. This system provides instant auto-translations and then also utilizes live translations on a delay as needed to ensure the integrity of a message.
While this platform allows group communication, it also provides an opportunity for individual and confidential communication as well. Responses, when applicable, to any group message will be seen by only the classroom teacher.
Parents/guardians are automatically enrolled in this feature if a cell phone number was provided during the enrollment process. To opt out of any single message thread, respond with “goodbye” or to unsubscribe from all Talking Points communications from all teachers respond with “stop.” Messages will be delivered directly to your smartphone as a text message or parents/guardian may choose to utilize the Talking Points app to keep all messages in one place and to enable specific notification options.
Please note that text messaging is one of many communication options available for teachers, and not all may choose to utilize this specific format for the sharing of information. Teachers who do plan to use text messaging are encouraged to alert families of their intentions and the expectations of response time, if any. We ask parents/guardians to be mindful that teachers spend the majority of their workday with students, focused on teaching, and to be respectful of message response time.
Leyden also utilizes this system for student messaging, Students must enroll in this service, directly from a email that is sent during the school year and covered during advisory.
Reminder: Summer reading program
The Leyden English department expects that all students have read one book from our published summer reading list. There's still time to check out a digital book or find a physical one and get reading. Discussions and classwork related to the books will occur on or after Monday, August 19. Please see leyden212.org/summerreading for details.

Leyden nationally honored for translation efforts
Over the summer, the National School Public Relations Association (NSPRA) recognized Leyden with a 2024 Golden Achievement Award for their efforts around translations. “Leyden Translates” features a series of strategic actions, expanding the district’s language offerings from four to more than 12 for the 2024-25 school year. Leyden’s goal of “providing communications in a language every family can understand” is at the heart of the initiative.
Leyden was honored at the NSPRA 2024 National Seminar this summer and is listed as an award-winning entry on the organization’s website www.nspra.org.
