MOVING OUT OF THE DISTRICT?
Every year we have several families who move from Oak Harbor to a new area. If your family is preparing to move outside of the district, please notify our attendance secretary, Ms. Amanda Osborn two weeks prior to your last day. Also, if your student will be absent three or more days, please contact Ms. Osborn for a student contract.
We would like to make your transition from our school to your new one as smooth as possible. Providing advance notice and addressing the items below will help you with the transition.
If you have any questions, please contact Ms. Amanda Osborn at 360-279-5309 or by email at aosborn@ohsd.net
Notify the Oak Harbor Intermediate School Office: Please send a note with your student(s) or stop by and visit. We would like to know your student’s last day of school, your new location, and your signature. This will help us inform our teachers and prepare the withdrawal form ahead of time. If you are moving to a new home within the Oak Harbor area, we will need a copy of your proof of address (a bill, lease agreement, bank statement, etc.) to make a transfer within the Oak Harbor Public Schools.
Verify the Last Day for the New School: Depending on where you are heading, our school calendar may not align with the school calendar at your new school. If this is the case, your student will need to work with their teacher to ensure they have performance information on file to transfer.
Return Books and Student Chromebook, & Clear Fines: Textbooks, library books, and your student Chromebook must be returned by the student’s last day of school. Any outstanding books will be placed on the fine list. Make sure your student’s fines are all cleared prior to withdrawing by logging into e-Funds. This will help expedite sending the official records to the new school. We are unable to send official records while there are outstanding fines.
Special Education Students: Contact Mrs. Sharkey, 360-279-5073, at the District Office to prepare a copy of your student’s Evaluation and Individualized Education Plan to take with you.
Food Service Balance: Please check the balance on your student’s Food Service Account. If they have a negative balance, please send payment with them. Should they have a positive balance, please contact the Oak Harbor School District Office at 360-279-5000 for a refund.
What Happens on the Student’s Last Day?: On the student’s last day, the withdrawal form will be completed with the necessary grades and signatures needed to complete this process. At the end of the day, the teacher will drop off the form at the office. Parents should stop by the office to sign the form and pick up paperwork to take with them to expedite their registration process at their new school. If this process does not get completed, it may hold up the student registration process and delay enrollment at their new school.
Again, our hope is to make this transition as smooth as possible. Please contact me at 360-279-5309 should you have any questions.
JUNETEENTH AND LAST DAY OF SCHOOL
There will be no school on June 19 in observance of Juneteenth. Juneteenth honors the end to slavery in the United States in 1865, two and a half years after the signing of the Emancipation Proclamation by President Abraham Lincoln.
Due to the two snow day closures in January, the last day of school for Oak Harbor Public Schools will be June 21, 2024. June 18 and 20 will be full days and June 21 will be a half day. For more important dates, including the 2024-2025 Academic Calendar for next school year, visit www.ohsd.net/calendars. School and district event information for the upcoming year will be posted in August.
FREE SUMMER MEALS
Oak Harbor Public Schools is excited to host the 11th annual Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) Monday through Friday, June 24 through August 16. SFSP is a federally funded, state-administered program designed to serve free meals to all children 18 years and under during the summer season.

ONLINE SAFETY ASSEMBLY FAMILY MESSAGE
With summer break just around the corner, many of our children will be venturing into the digital realm, and we want to ensure they learn how to keep themselves safe. We have invited a special speaker, HSI Special Agent Jesse Miller, to present at a June 10 assembly with our students. Our PTA is helping us offer a unique opportunity for the first 20 parents/guardians to attend the half-hour assembly, followed by a special parent/guardian session with Special Agent Miller. If you would like to join us on June 10 (1:50 pm to 3 pm), please visit our OHI PTA Sign Up Genius for “Parent Talk with Homeland Security Personnel.”
Below, Homeland Security has shared the following resources to help keep your children safe with online browsing and adventures:
Know2Protect - Information and material about online child exploitation
Take It Down - A resource for students that have nude pictures being shared online
Blue Campaign - Information and free materials about human trafficking
Lastly, as previously communicated in the fall and again in early spring, if you or your child sees anything suspicious or anything that makes your child uncomfortable, please contact the police. The Department of Homeland Security also has useful information about awareness in its “If you See Something, Say Something” materials available online. Additionally, the National Crime Prevention Council has Stranger-Danger tips that are helpful in guiding your child to stay as safe as possible.
Thank you for your kind attention to this very important step in keeping all children safe.
Best to you and yours,
Principal Raenette Sasaki Wood

FOOD POLICY
Several of our children suffer from severe &/or life-threatening food allergies. Food treats for celebrations will not be accepted/distributed. We want all children to receive special recognition and have the opportunity to celebrate special occasions. Please consider an alternative “treat” such as special pencils, erasers, etc. Thank you in advance for your understanding and thoughtfulness toward all our students.
A MESSAGE FROM OUR NURSES
We have had a great year working with your child. As we wrap up our school year, we want to pass along important information about your child’s healthcare and school medications.
END OF SCHOOL YEAR AND MEDICATIONS:
Please remember to pick up all medications your student had at school by 1:30 PM on Friday, June 21, 2024. We are not able to send medications home with your student or store medications over the summer. All medications left after 1:30 PM on the 21st will be destroyed. If your student has a life-threatening condition, medications must remain at school until the end of the school day on Friday, June 21st.
SCHOOL YEAR 2024-25:
ALL medication administration authorizations and health plans are good for one school year only and must be renewed annually. If your child requires a health plan or needs to take medication during the school day for the school year 2024-2025 (this includes any prescription, over-the-counter medications, or inhalers used at school, during team sports practices, or after school activities), please download the appropriate form from the district website https://www.ohsd.net/5568_3. Forms may also be picked up in your school’s office. Have your healthcare provider complete the form before school starts in the fall. Parents/Guardians must sign all forms. Please bring the completed medication authorization, health plan, and the medication in the original over-the-counter or labeled prescription container when school begins in the fall. Medications cannot be accepted from students.
DIABETES, LIFE-THREATENING ALLERGIES, SEVERE ASTHMA, AND SEIZURES:
Health plans and emergency medication for Diabetes, Life-Threatening Allergies, Severe Asthma & Seizures must be at school before the first day of the new school year, September 4, 2024. School office staff can begin accepting these items in August. School nursing staff will be available starting August 19, 2024. Students with life-threatening conditions will be excluded from school until the signed health plan and medication are at school. If your student has diabetes, your school nurse will contact you to set up a meeting prior to the first day of school to establish the required diabetes health plan. Current healthcare providers’ orders from the most recent diabetes checkup will be required.
Thank you for your cooperation, and please have a happy, healthy summer.
A MESSAGE FROM OUR COUNSELORS
Have a great summer! Students will all participate in activities to close out the school year with connection and remembering the school year!
Counselor Access: School counselors will be out of the building on the last day of school and returning in Mid-August to prepare for next school year!
If you or your family are needing Mental Health support over the summer, please see below for two available resources.
Island County Behavioral Health- Free for Island County Residents

Keeping Students Safe Online!
Student online access is more prevalent and available than ever. With the summer approaching it is important to make sure parents know what their students are accessing online and how to help their students understand how to stay safe while online.
K2P Kids is a fantastic resource for families and students to learn how to stay safe online. Additionally, Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) Special Agent Jesse Miller will be presenting much of this material at an assembly for students in June.
Summer Food Assistance!
The State and Federal Government have a new program to help families with rising food costs. If your family is eligible for Free/Reduced Lunch prices through the school district, check out the Washington SUN Bucks Summer EBT Program.
This is not a district program, but something that may be helpful for your family.
