Dress Down/Jean Day Dress Code Guidelines for Milwaukee College Prep Staff & Scholars
At Milwaukee College Prep, both our staff and scholars are expected to dress appropriately for casual days. Dress down/jean days will be designated on specific days announced and determined by the school, while uniforms are strictly enforced on all other school days. The attire staff and scholars choose should not pose a distraction to the learning environment and should be comfortable for all school activities. Our primary focus is the education of our scholars, and clothing should never hinder this purpose.
Clothing must cover all undergarments and the midriff. Any attire that disrupts the learning environment will be reported to the administration, and appropriate actions will be taken to address the dress code violation. Logos or garments promoting or advertising alcohol, drugs, tobacco, gang affiliation, nudity, profanity, violence, and/or containing inappropriate imagery or slogans are strictly prohibited and may be confiscated.
For dress down days/jean days, the following dress code guidelines must be adhered to:
Tops:
- All shirts must have sleeves.
- Shirts must not reveal any areas of the waist or upper body (no cleavage).
- The midriff must remain covered at all times.
Bottoms:
- Pants for all genders must conceal undergarments at all times.
- Pants for all genders must be worn at the waist (no sagging pants).
- Shorts must be at least fingertip length for both staff and scholars.
- Skirts must also be at least fingertip length.
- Jeans/pants that require lacing are not permitted.
- No holes of any size above the knee are allowed (whether patched or otherwise).
- Leggings are not to be worn without being covered past the hip
Footwear:
- Shoes/footwear must be worn at all times on school grounds.
- Shoes/footwear requiring laces must be tied.
- Shoes/footwear with straps must be fastened.
- Heel height on shoes/footwear should not exceed 2 inches.
Additionally, the following items are not allowed:
- Tank tops or sleeveless shirts
- Pajamas
- Lounge pants
- Bedroom shoes/slippers
- Bandanas, hats, headscarves, or "doo rags"
- Sunglasses and non-prescription eyewear (unless instructed otherwise)
- Chains, spiked jewelry, or spiked accessories, including belts
Please be aware that the school reserves the right to address new fashion trends not mentioned in this document as they become available to our staff and scholar community. All fashions must be appropriate for a minor-aged, educational setting.
