Principal McGroarty's Musings
Voyager Families,
We have had a wonderful start to the school year and I’m so excited that we’re starting to settle back into routines, or to learn new routines, as we start to pick up steam. Next week is going to be a very full week with iReady testing and the return (although I think the Seniors are the only class who may remember this) of the Welcome Back Assembly! Our StuCo has been working hard to plan some fun activities for us and we will take the opportunity to review some of our schoolwide expectations.
I have to give a huge shout out to our teachers for communicating expectations around cell phones and an even bigger shout out to our students for doing what we have asked! I am always proud of our students, but my principal heart has swelled a bit over the last week and a half as I’ve witnessed students’ response to our requests.
A couple of reminders as we continue to solidify good routines:
- Please talk with your children about the importance of wearing their ID badges on the correct lanyard each day. We have a lot of adults and children on and off of our campus each day (more than a comprehensive campus in most cases) and we need to ensure the safety of our students by being able to identify each person on campus and their purpose for being here.
- Please remind your children that we have iReady diagnostic testing coming up next week. Details are included below.
Thank you for partnering with us as we support your children on their academic journey. It’s gonna be a great year here at Renaissance!
Tips for a Successful Year!
School IDs
All school IDs have been issued. IDs are required when students walk in the door and any time they are in the building. IDs are their door keys, bus passes and are scanned when students are tardy or leaving early. It's the student's responsibility to keep their ID safe when not in use. Students that attend school without their ID are required to sign in and print out a temporary ID sticker that is to be worn throughout the day. If IDs are lost, they are able to purchase a new one through our Bookkeeper.
Late Start Wednesdays
Renaissance has late start Wednesdays, which means we start class 15 minutes late. (7:55am)
Also, there is no advisory and students are released at 2:15pm. PM bus schedules remain the same, 2:45pm.
Bus Schedules
With the first week behind us, hopefully our buses are running a smooth and timely schedule.
Buses end of day leave promptly at 2:45pm. There is only 5 minutes from end of advisory to when the buses leave. Please remind your student not to dilly dally so they can catch their bus on time.
Parking Permits
If your student is driving, they will need a parking permit. If you haven't yet, follow these steps.
1) complete the online RHS Parking Permit Application
2) pay $15 to RHS through MySchoolFees or at the bookkeeper's office during regular business hours.
Permits will be checked on Monday, August 26th.
Attendance
PERMIT TO LEAVE CAMPUS
Attendance Line (208) 350-4385
If your student needs to leave campus anytime during the school day, please call the attendance line & request a Permit to Leave pass. Calling at least one hour before your student needs to leave is appreciated and helps us process your request & get your student out on time. We know one hour's notice is not always feasible, but it is greatly appreciated when possible.
Library News: School Issued Devices
Students are expected to utilize their district issued device for classroom instruction, and to bring their device to school every day charged and in working order.
Devices are intended for educational use, such as accessing school messages, announcements, calendars, schedules, completing schoolwork, and submitting assignments. Please understand that due to licensing agreements some technology programs and resources cannot be installed on personal devices. Technical support for a personal device is limited to best effort based upon time and resources available.
If you do not currently have a school issued device, please report to the library before school, during lunch or after school to get your device.
If you are unsure if you have a device already checked out to you, please view the PDF, for the following steps in Destiny:
For small troubleshooting issues, students may check in with our staff in the library. For more complicated computer issues, please contact our IT department 208-350-5300.

Seniors will report to their 1st period, if they have one, like usual.
Students will be released from 1st period for a short 5-minute break before testing begins.
Senior students WILL NOT return to 1st period following the short break.
They will report to the following locations:

Thursday (8/29) – 8:50-10:20 – RHS Study Lounge
Students, please refer to your email for further details.
Advisory
Advisory (2:18-2:40 M, Tu, Th, F) at RHS is academic learning time for students. Our expectation is that all students will report to their advisory class through Friday, August 30th. After 8/30, Advisory is mandatory every Monday or the first school day of the week. FRESHMEN: Advisory is mandatory through the first semester. Advisory is created for students to make a plan that will support their academic success. This will look different for all students. The remaining days of the week will be used to enact their plan including study groups, working with teachers, and independent work.
There is no student advisory on Wednesday. Students may leave at 2:15 on Wednesdays; however, buses will not leave until 2:45. This is a time for teachers to meet and collaborate; therefore, the expectation is that if students are in the building until 2:40, that they are working quietly.
