The Spencer Scoop
June 7, 2024
What a great Field Day! Despite the clouds and a few sprinkles, I think it's safe to say that a good time was had by all! Thank you to our amazing PTO, volunteers and all of our families who come together to make this day possible. It is a day that all of our students look forward to and enjoy.
A few items as we prepare for our last 2 1/2 days of the 2023-2024 school year:
- 4th Grade Clap Out - We invite all 4th grade families to join us on June 12th at 12:20 PM to congratulate and wish our 4th graders well as they graduate from Spencer and embark on their journey to Maltby Intermediate School. Families are invited to line up on the sidewalk along the drop off lane at 12:20 PM. The 4th grade teachers will be starting in the back of the building and leading their classes to the front where families will be able to clap and cheer for their favorite 4th grader. Once all of the classes have passed, parents who wish to sign their child out may do so by meeting their child's teacher on the Southeast side of the building near the Friendship Center/Multipurpose Room doors. If you have other children at Spencer, they will be dismissed at 12:50 PM. If your child will be riding the bus home they will stay with their teacher until dismissal.
- Backpacks - The last day for students to bring backpacks will be Tuesday, June 13th.
- Busses on the Last Day - Please note that busses may run a bit behind on the last day of school. We will, as always, do our best to expedite dismissal.
Medication Pick Up
Student medication(s) must be picked up by dismissal time on June 12th.
Controlled medication(s) must be picked up by a parent/guardian on file.
Any medication not picked up will be discarded.
Last Chance to Get a Yearbook!
Yearbooks were delivered to your child's classroom on Wednesday and should be coming home with them today. I do have a few copies available for purchase in the office. They are $20 (cash only, please) and you can email me at berryl@brightonk12.com if you would like to reserve a copy for your student.
**Fun Fact** The yearbook cover was chosen and voted on by our 4th graders!
The New Food Pantry
From The 2023-2024 4th Grade Students!
Do you ever need a little help with food once in a while? Well, we have the perfect solution! The new Food Pantry at Spencer! You may take as many items as you want from the pantry. There will even be a labeled bin for allergy friendly foods! Plus, home supplies are now included. The pantry will be located in a new, more private space with no windows nearby. You may visit as many times as you need! The pantry is located outside, behind the teacher picnic area. And all are welcome to use it! Teachers and students will restock the pantry when it is empty. This is an amazing gift from our 4th grade class and PTO. Thanks! So remember, if you are ever in need of something from the pantry or would like to donate to a great cause, go check it out today!

Just In Case Clothes
REMINDER!
THANK YOU to those of you who are packing a change of "just in case clothes" in your child's backpack every day. Now that the weather is changing, please make sure that the clothes you pack are weather appropriate. This is for ALL students, grades JK-4th, you never know when your student may have a nosebleed, or lose a tooth, or spill food on their shirt, or find a mud puddle outside, or have a bathroom accident. We have already had to contact quite a few families to come up with a change of clothing. If your student keeps a change of clothes in their backpack, then we can take care of it here, otherwise we will need you to bring up a change of clothing. Thank you for your cooperation.

Dear Spencer Families,
This is the last Spencer Scoop for me and I just wanted to take a moment to thank you for your support these past 6 years. It has truly been an honor being part of this PTO Board, and part of the Spencer Community. You have been wonderfully supportive, and generous. I appreciate you volunteering your time to help with events, donating money, food, and whatever else we decided we should collect at the time. I know we sometimes overwhelm with timing of events and fundraisers, but you have always come through and kept us Spencer Strong!
From Roadrunner Runs to Special Interest Days, Auctions to Luau's, and even a Pandemic in between - it has been crazy at times, always busy, but also extremely rewarding. I am grateful to have had this chance to get to know many of you and your wonderful tiny humans. From the bottom of my heart, thank you for allowing me to be part of the party. It was a fantastic ride!
All my best,
Jen Lumsden
Never fear! You are in great hands with a lovely group of ladies who are ready to jump in and keep the fun going next year.

Please remember to bring your Family Pass with you EVERY day you come to pick up your student! . We frequently have substitute teachers that will not recognize you and will send you to the office to get a family pass card before releasing your child to you. This is for safety and security reasons and we appreciate your cooperation.

BAS Pack of Dogs
The BAS Pack of Dogs are excited to announce our inaugural Pack Parade! We will be hosting a 1 mile walk that will start at the Mill Pond and end at BHS with food trucks, yard games, and raffle baskets. Participants in the walk can use the link and select “become a fundraiser” to sign up and create a fundraising team/page that can be shared on your social media. This way you can tell your family and friends about the amazing pups you’re pledging to walk for, and they can also help contribute to your page. There will be prizes for the top fundraising teams from each Brighton School! We hope to see everyone there!
Any questions or Pack Parade sponsorship inquiries please reach out to Kaitlyn Lipinski or Rachaelle Baxter
