MESSAGE FROM THE SUPERINTENDENT
Greetings MVCSD Community,
Congratulations graduates! Denzel Washington School of the Arts, Mount Vernon STEAM Academy, Mount Vernon High School and the very first graduating class of Rebecca Turner Academy scholars: you have so much to be proud of. The theme of my speeches this year was overcoming the odds, and many of you have done just that. You have had achievements that would have been hard to imagine four years ago. We have students going to the Ivy League and other prestigious colleges, students entering the armed forces to protect our country and students who are already getting a start on their careers. This has truly been an impressive graduating class.
The Mount Vernon City School District has had a strong year of academic success, including new and improved programs throughout the District. We have improved career and technical education offerings, expanded our partnerships with colleges and local organizations, and expanded after school programs. In its first year, Rebecca Turner Academy also had a successful year, graduating over 30 students. RTA allowed our students to catch up on credits with an intensive curriculum, and these graduates will be going out into the world with a diploma and numerous opportunities. I am excited to see what is in store for the 2024-2025 school year at RTA and throughout the District.
We will come back even stronger next year to continue on our mission of fostering a lifelong love of learning in our students. To those who have graduated, thank you for your time in the Mount Vernon City School District! We hope to see you come back and support this District, like many have before you. DENZEL WASHINGTON SCHOOL OF ARTS HOLDS GRADUATION CEREMONY FOR CLASS OF 2024
Students turned their tassels, walked across the stage and officially became graduates of Denzel Washington School of the Arts on Friday, June 21, 2024. 59 students graduated from the Class of 2024. The commencement ceremony was held in the Phylicia Rashad Auditorium at DWSA.
CLASS OF 2024 AT MV STEAM ACADEMY GRADUATES 153 STUDENTS
In front of a crowd of cheering family members, 153 students graduated from Mount Vernon STEAM Academy’s Class of 2024 on Monday, June 24, 2024. The commencement ceremony was held at Mount Vernon High School, and Stephen Ball, Harvard Law School Dean of Students, delivered the keynote speech.
MVHS AND RTA HOLD COMMENCEMENT CEREMONY AT MEMORIAL FIELD
For the first time in 27 years, Mount Vernon High School held its commencement ceremony at the newly renovated Memorial Field alongside the first-ever graduating class from Rebecca Turner Academy, which just completed its inaugural year. Two hundred and sixteen students graduated from MVHS and RTA’s Class of 2024 on Tuesday, June 25, 2024.
