Principal's Message
Dear Vista Families,
It has truly been a pleasure serving as your principal for the past six years. Although I am leaving Vista, I will still be a part of the Claremont Unified Community as I will begin my position in the district office on Monday, September 9th. Dr. Brett O'Connor will serve as Vista's Interim Principal until a permanent principal is hired. Dr. O'Conner comes with a plethora of elementary school experience and is thrilled to join the Vista Community. Please be sure to give him a warm Viking welcome.
Next week is Spirit Week. A flier went home last week and the information is also posted beneath my message. Be sure to show your school spirit!
Finally, PFA is building a classroom directory. If you are interested, please view PFA's message below and click on the link to add your information.
Warmly,
Mrs. Nuanes
Show your Viking Spirit next week!
A Message from PFA (Parent Faculty Association)
We will be compiling classroom directories as a way for families to connect with one another and for students to continue to build friendships in and out of the classroom! This is completely optional. If you would like your information to be included in your child's class directory, please fill out this quick form. Thank you!
Welcome our New Custodian
Welcome our new Vista morning custodian, Peter! Although Peter is new to Vista he is a model seasoned employee at Claremont Unified. His experiences at CUSD began at Claremont High School. Within the last several years, Peter was the night custodian at Sycamore Elementary. Please assist me in welcoming Peter to our Vista family!

Reminders about morning supervision and breakfast
Gates open at 7:45am. There is no supervision prior to 7:45am so it is imperative that students are not dropped off earlier than 7:45am. School begins at 8:00 am each day. During the first week of school, you may accompany your child on campus to their new classroom, if you wish. Beginning September 4th, please say goodbye to your child outside of school grounds and allow your child to walk to class.
If you would like your child to have a school breakfast, students will enter the multipurpose room at 7:35 am then be escorted to their classrooms by 7:57am. Please note that we stop service at 7:55am in order for students to be in their classrooms on time. If your child misses breakfast, your child will be offered a second opportunity to eat breakfast at first recess.

Attendance Counts!
Prompt and regular attendance is a key component to your child’s success in school. Students need to attend school to achieve in school. When students are not in school, they fall behind. Chronic absenteeism impacts all students—no matter their age. Students that miss just two days a month for any reason are more likely to not read at grade level, and more likely to not graduate.
When excessive absences (excused and unexcused) or tardies occur, the school district’s automated system notifies parents with a letter expressing concern. The school site makes every effort to work with families to solve attendance problems. However, if poor attendance continues, the matter may be referred to the School Attendance and Review Board of Los Angeles County (SARB).
Parents can help promote good attendance by scheduling home activities, appointments, trips, and family vacations outside of regular school days and times.
When your child is absent
As soon as you know your child will be absent from school, please call the office to speak to the office directly or call the Attendance Hotline. You can call this number any time; it is available 24 hours.
