On Tuesday, February 18th, the Morse Shipbuilders Boys Swim and Dive team won the MPA Class B State Championships at Bowdoin College!
The 'Builders started the day on top and stayed there for good. The 200 Medley Relay team, consisting of Sawyer Wright, Brady Chubbuck, Gaffney McDonough, and David Mitchell - also state record holders - broke the Class B State Meet record by nearly a second to start the meet.

Morse would score 424.5 points on the day. Second place Greely scored 299 points. It was a very dominant performance by our group. First-year head coach Spencer Hallowell wins his first state championship in charge of the program.

Phippsburg Elementary Students Celebrate Kindness Week
Students at Phippsburg Elementary School recently took part in Kindness Week, a meaningful and engaging experience that encouraged positive interactions and thoughtful actions. Throughout the week, students participated in discussions about kindness, completed acts of kindness, and worked diligently to fill their “buckets” with smiley face stickers.
As part of the initiative, students learned what it means to be a “bucket filler”—someone who spreads kindness, positivity, and encouragement to others. By offering compliments, helping friends, and showing consideration for those around them, students saw firsthand how small gestures can make a big difference.
Research shows that kindness in the classroom leads to stronger relationships, better communication, and increased student engagement. When students feel respected and supported by their peers, they are more likely to participate in discussions, take academic risks, and work collaboratively. Acts of kindness—whether it’s encouraging a friend, helping a classmate, or showing gratitude—strengthen social-emotional skills that are critical for learning.
Teaching kindness at an early age also helps students develop empathy, patience, and emotional resilience. These skills improve their ability to handle challenges, focus on their work, and approach problem-solving with a positive mindset. A kind and respectful classroom environment reduces distractions and conflicts, allowing students to concentrate on their education and enjoy the learning process. By fostering kindness in elementary school, students not only grow into compassionate individuals but also become more engaged, confident, and motivated learners.
Phippsburg Elementary School extends its appreciation to everyone who contributed to the success of Kindness Week and looks forward to seeing students continue to be bucket fillers throughout the year.
