Macleans Primary School Community
Hello Everyone
Welcome back to school for Term 2, and a very warm welcome to our new families that have joined our Macleans Primary School Community. We hope you all had a relaxing and enjoyable holiday.
It has been busy in the holidays with many things happening with our school property. The hall is getting close to completion and the refurbishment of Room 6 to Room 8 has begun. Room 9 is scheduled for refurbishment as well but will not begin until SKIDS is able to move into the hall as they are currently using Room 9.
Please ensure that you continue to look out for all communication from us as we have an exciting and busy term ahead. Communication happens in many ways:
- Newsletters are emailed out every other Wednesday and uploaded to our website for use with Google Translate.
- Notices & Updates emailed out and on seesaw
- Calendar/Events on the school website here: https://macleansprimary.school.nz/our-school/events
- Newsletters are uploaded to our school app (Skool Loop) - see https://skoolloop.com/en-nz/
- Year group (Team) newsletters are sent out from time to time.
- Reminders will be sent out on our school app.
- The school calendar/events is on our website and is continually updated - see https://macleansprimary.school.nz/our-school/events
- Macleans Primary Facebook page
Attendance has been identified as one of the greatest influences on students' achievement, engagement and well-being. During Term 1 we met Ministry target and had 90% overall attendance at Macleans Primary. Well done to our community for valuing attendance and education so highly. Please continue to let us know if your child will be absent by:
- Emailing the school office: admin@macleansprimary.school.nz
- Phoning (09) 534 - 5191 and leaving a message.
- Using the school website (report an absence, top right of school website
- Skool Loop App (download for your phone)
**Please state your name, your child’s name, their room number and the reason for their absence.**
Some interesting facts on attendance/absences as 1 or 2 Days a week doesn’t seem like much, but over a child's 13 years of schooling, If the child misses:
•1 day per week absence = 2.5 years of school missed
•2 days per week is 40% of the week and 40% of the school year, therefore over 5 years of schooling missed
•3 days per week is nearly 8 years of schooling missed. Wow!
Lots of information, news, updates and highlights on all things Macleans Primary in this newsletter. Please enjoy!

Un-Packing The New Macleans Local Curriculum in 2024 The Treaty of Waitangi
The Treaty of Waitangi
The Treaty of Waitangi principle is one of eight principles in The New Zealand Curriculum that provide a foundation for schools' decision making. The Treaty of Waitangi principle calls for schools and teachers to deliver a curriculum that:
- acknowledges the Treaty of Waitangi principles
- acknowledges our nation’s bicultural foundations
- enables students to acquire knowledge of te reo Māori and tikanga Māori.
