Good Afternoon SEMS Families,

I hope this email finds you well after time with friends and family this past week. This newsletter is full with lots of information about our new bus service, upcoming assembly, independent study contracts, Students on Stage Auditions, and the need for new crossing guards. We know that the addition of buses is going to help tremendously with traffic in the morning and afternoons, and the final piece to the traffic puzzle is hiring a few people to help as crossing guards in the morning. If you know anyone who might be interested, please encourage them to apply! Maybe you have college student at home who could use a short one hour commitment each day? Or you could use some extra holiday shopping cash? Read below for details about how to apply.

• December 16th-19th: Spirit Week
• December 19th: Last Student Day, Winter Break Begins
• January 13th: School Resumes, 2nd Semester

We are thrilled to announce that after winter break, students will be able to select bus service to SEMS! If you would like your student to take the bus to or/and from school, please sign up by completing an application as soon as possible, available here. There are many different purchase options including only AM, only PM, or vouchers for 10 rides

Many students will qualify to ride the bus to school for free, while others may need to purchase a low-cost bus pass. Once your application has been submitted, a member of our Transportation team will reach out to share details with you.

We have invited the #icanhelp organization to come to our school to teach our students about digital safety. While we have seen an increase in positive student interactions with a cell phone free environment for most of the day, we also recognize that most of our students have cell phones and believe it is important for us to teach them how to use them safely. We will hold grade level assemblies in the morning and will have a parent presentation that night.

Parent Guidelines for Social Media Device Use

Short-term independent study is available for planned absences between 1-15 days with a 5-business day notice to the Attendance Office. If your child completes the work assigned, their absences can be changed to 'Excused" and we are able to recoup our ADA! Please contact the Attendance Office at semsattendance@smusd.org or 760-290-2814.

Homework Time

Homework Time began on Tuesday, September 3rd. It is held on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2:30 - 3:30 p.m. and on Wednesdays from 1:30 - 2:30 p.m. in the library. This is a quiet space for students to work on assignments.

After School Tutoring/Extracurriculars
