Micaela Diamond graduated from LaGuardia Arts, Drama Studio, in 2017. Diamond, a Jewish American actor, starred in the critically acclaimed Broadway revival of the musical Parade as Lucille Frank, a performance for which she was nominated for the 2023 Tony Award for Best Actress in a Musical. After Graduating from LaGuardia, she deferred attending Carnegie Mellon University's prestigious Musical Theater program to make her Broadway debut as Babe in The Cher Show (2018–2019).

Many people visit cemeteries and memorials on Memorial Day to honor and mourn those who died while serving in the U.S. military. Many volunteers place American flags on the graves of military personnel in national cemeteries. More information about Memorial Day

Information and News
May is AAPI, Jewish American Heritage, and National Mental Health Month
As a reminder, it is intentional that the theme for each week's Yellow Sheet alternates between AAPI and Jewish American Heritage Months. This week's focus is AAPI,; and next week's Yellow Sheet will focus on Mental Health.
Keep Campaign Posters On the Walls
Friends don't let friends take down campaign posters. Candidates for SGO positions spend their own money on their campaign materials, and we want to be sure that students are not taking down posters.
Poster in Stairwells
While approved posters are allowed in stairwells, the fire hose system (on each floor) must remain poster free. Posters on safety equipment are removed by the custodians and appropriate school staff.
Final Week of Club Meetings
The week of May 27 - 31 is the final week that clubs can meet. Certain clubs with approved activities are able to meet until the completion of the event.
Eating in the Building
Students should eat food in Cafeterias and not in stairwells, classrooms, hallways, locker bays, etc. This should reduce any incentive vermin and bugs have to reside here.

We are almost at the finish line and it's time for us to prepare some very important documents. Please take the time to complete this NAME VERIFICATION FORM.

European Family Vacation
During the spring break, LaGuardia had 72 students and 12 chaperones fly across the ocean to visit Austria, Germany and Switzerland. They explored many castles and palaces, including the inspiration behind the iconic Walt Disney Castle, Neuschwanstein Castle.
In Austria, students got moving to the sound of music, strutting their dance skills with the Viennese Waltz.
In Germany, the place to be was the Marienplatz, the heart of Munich. Some even had to chance to strike a pose with exclusive BMW vehicles.
In Switzerland, the group rode up in the gondolas to the Swiss Alps and admired the city and Lake of Lucerne.
And who can forget the fine and special dining that concluded each evening.
Our catchphrase will always be “LaGuardia #1, 4-8 blocks away from Central Park”. [the assumption is that this in an inside joke among the participants]
Renew 504 Accommodations for 2024 - 2025 School Year
This information is For Students Who Currently Have a 505 Accommodation Plan
This message is intended for parents whose child has been receiving health services and/or reasonable accommodations in school and DOE-sponsored programs/activities under Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973. These services help a student with health needs to participate in school on an equal basis as their peers who do not have disabilities. For example, students with a medical condition may be given medicine at school according to their health care provider’s instructions, or students who have trouble seeing or hearing may be seated close to the blackboard.
The Office of School Health reviews medical accommodation requests each school year to confirm whether your child needs services and/or accommodations in school, and to let the school know about any changes to ensure your child’s needs are met.
To get ready for the upcoming school year:
Students who require testing and/or classroom accommodations:
Students with Diabetes:
If your 504 accommodations are for diabetes:
Ask your child’s health care provider to fill out the Diabetes Medication Administration Form, Medication Administration Form(s), and/or Medically Prescribed Treatment Form (attach a small recent photo to the upper left corner).
After reviewing the forms completed by your child’s health care provider, sign the back page of the form(s) and include your contact information. You must sign the form(s) for your child to start receiving medication/medical treatment from the school nurse.
Submit the completed Diabetes Medication Administration Form, or Medication Administration Form, and/or Medically Prescribed Treatment Form to the school nurse as early as June 1, 2024, or as soon as possible, so that your child receives authorized services at the start of the 2024-2025 school year.
Two New School Travel Opportunities
Dear families,
We’re going to Costa Rica in February 2025 and Greece in April 2025, and you’re invited!
We’re excited to tell you more about the trips we’re planning with EF Tours, our educational travel partner. Please be sure to register for this info session to be considered for this opportunity: https://bit.ly/3yvuZOm
When students travel, they expand their knowledge of the world around them, discover more about themselves, and grow more confident. These skills are critical for creating the global citizens of tomorrow, and we would love to have your student join us on this adventure.
In this info session, we’ll talk about:
How this opportunity will benefit students
What we’ll see and do on our trips
Everything that’s included in this experience
How your child can earn academic credit
How we’re keeping this safe and affordable
How to enroll on this trip (before it fills up!) during EF’s risk-free enrollment period
There are limited spots on these trips, so we would love to have you attend this meeting to learn more about this exciting opportunity! Due to high demand, please only use one account per family to join us for the info session as Zoom has a capacity of 300 and last year we ran out of space for everyone to attend the meeting. A follow up email will also go out to all who registered with the details regarding the information presented in the meeting.
Please note that these are two separate trips and are in no way connected to one another. Acceptance on one trip does not guarantee nor does it deny acceptance on the other trip.
Thanks!

Did the USA Force Relocation of Asian Americans to Camps During WWII?
Parade -- The Musical Based on George Takei's Experience Being
Parade is a musical with a book by Alfred Uhry and music and lyrics by Jason Robert Brown. The musical is a dramatization of the 1913 trial and imprisonment, and 1915 lynching, of Jewish American Leo Frank in Georgia.
The musical premiered on Broadway in December 1998 and won Tony Awards for Best Book and Best Original Score (out of nine nominations) and six Drama Desk Awards. After closing on Broadway in February 1999, the show has had a US national tour and a few professional productions in the US and UK. Its 2023 Broadway staging was nominated for six Tony Awards, winning two, including Best Revival of a Musical.
The musical dramatizes the 1913 trial of Jewish factory manager Leo Frank, who was accused and convicted of raping and murdering a thirteen-year-old employee, Mary Phagan. The trial, sensationalized by the media, aroused antisemitic tensions in Atlanta and the U.S. state of Georgia. When Frank's death sentence was commuted to life in prison by the departing Governor of Georgia, John M. Slaton, in 1915 due to his detailed review of over 10,000 pages of testimony and possible problems with the trial, Leo Frank was transferred to a prison in Milledgeville, Georgia, where a lynching party seized and kidnapped him. Frank was taken to Phagan's hometown of Marietta, Georgia, and he was hanged from an oak tree. The events surrounding the investigation and trial led to two groups emerging: the revival of the defunct KKK and the birth of the Jewish Civil Rights organization, the Anti-Defamation League (ADL).[1]
Director Harold Prince turned to Jason Robert Brown to write the score after Stephen Sondheim turned the project down. Prince's daughter, Daisy, had brought Brown to her father's attention. Book writer Alfred Uhry, who grew up in Atlanta, had personal knowledge of the Frank story, as his great-uncle owned the pencil factory run by Leo Frank.[2]
The musical's story concludes that the likely killer was the factory janitor Jim Conley, the key witness against Frank at the trial. The villains of the piece are the ambitious and corrupt prosecutor Hugh Dorsey (later the governor of Georgia and then a judge) and the rabidly anti-semitic publisher Tom Watson (later elected a U.S. senator). Prince and Uhry emphasized the evolving relationship between Frank and his wife Lucille.[3] Their relationship shifts from cold to warm in songs like "Leo at Work/What am I Waiting For?," "You Don't Know This Man," "Do it Alone," and "All the Wasted Time". The poignancy of the couple, who fall in love in the midst of adversity, is the core of the work. It makes the tragic outcome – the miscarriage of justice – even more disturbing.[4]
The show was Brown's first Broadway production. His music, according to critic Charles Isherwood, has "subtle and appealing melodies that draw on a variety of influences, from pop-rock to folk to rhythm and blues and gospel."[3]

Congestion Pricing Coming to New York on June 30: Learn about the Individual Disability Exemption Plan (IDEP)
FROM THE MTA: Office of the Congestion Relief Zone
Starting on June 30, 2024, vehicles entering the Congestion Relief Zone – the area of Manhattan south of and including 60 St – will be charged a toll. The purpose of the Congestion Relief Zone toll is to reduce gridlock in what is now one of the most congested districts in the country. You can learn more about the toll here.
Vehicles carrying people with disabilities might be eligible for an exemption. The Individual Disability Exemption Plan (IDEP) is designed for individuals whose disabilities prevent them from using public transit. To qualify for IDEP, the vehicle must be registered to the individual with the disability, or to a person designated by that individual, such as a caregiver, if they use that vehicle to drive the applicant in the Congestion Relief Zone.
The MTA is hosting webinars for members of the disability community who may qualify for IDEP, explaining eligibility criteria and application procedures. We encourage you to join us and register to one of the two webinars:
Webinar 1:
May 29, 2pm-3pm, Zoom Webinar Registration
Webinar 2:
June 10, 11am-12pm, Zoom Webinar registration
In the meantime, you can learn more about IDEP and determine your eligibility here. If you believe that you meet the criteria for exemption, please visit E-ZPass New York to apply.
Applicants will receive a formal decision notice once their application is processed. Should you have any questions or require further assistance regarding the Individual Disability Exemption Plan, please contact E-ZPass Customer Service Center at 800-333-8655.
