What a great week we had!! Students in 3rd and 4th grade finished MCAS and they put in such hard work and effort into the test. Our 5th grader were able to go to Old Ordinary on a field trip and they just have their Science MCAs left to take next week.

A Huge thank you to you, the parents, and our PTO team, that made our teachers feel so great and appreciated this week. Every gesture you do for the staff does not go un noticed and it is TRULY appreciated. Thank you, Thank You Thank You!!!

Spring is in full swing! While enjoying the spring weather, please remember these tips to help keep your children happy and healthy this season:

• Apply sunblock to your child every day before school

• Make sure children take their allergy medications daily if they suffer from seasonal allergies....seeing lots of itchy, red, watery eyes! We do not stock Claritin at the elementary schools. Encourage kids to wash their hands and face each time after coming inside after playing or recess

• Check your child daily for ticks and apply insect repellent before school and any time they play outside. Please be aware that some classes may go out to the nature trail for field science and gym class. Be particularly attentive in checking for ticks, other insect bites and poison ivy, sumac or oak rashes, if they have been in the woods.

• It is important to be familiar with the signs and symptoms of Lyme disease. Please refer to the following link from the CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) for more information about Lyme disease. http://www.cdc.gov/lyme/

• Send in a water bottle every day for your child to drink from throughout the day.

Please click the link above to go over the tools Mrs. St. Laurence has taught this year. Some students need a refresher on some of the tools which Mrs. St. Laurence is doing from now to the end of the school year but having these tools used at home or discussed would help continue to build the strong relationship we already have between home and school.

I shared with the PTO at the 5/5 meeting how elementary schools do class placement. We also discussed when placement goes home that due to the extensive exchange of information between school staff and families, requests for changes after class lists are finalized will not be honored.

Please check your child's lunch balance many have outstanding balances.

Grade Six Course Selection Form and Orientation Materials for HMS

In order to help us prepare for next year, Hingham Middle School asks that students and families complete the attached Google form together. This will provide you with an overview of HMS and gives us important information about course preferences to help create student schedules.

We ask that this form be completed and submitted by Friday, May 12, 2023.

In connection with this event, we are inviting all students in grades Pre K-12 who live and/or attend school in Hingham to share their views on the theme: Why is it important to celebrate Juneteenth? Students are invited to participate in a competition where they can express why we as a community should be commemorating this event through a work of visual or performance art, an essay or other written work. Students are invited to submit an essay, poem, a piece of visual art (drawing, painting, sculpture – any medium of expression is welcome!), a video or original song or other performance to the Juneteenth committee.

Submissions are due Monday, June 5th.

There will be a winner from grades Pre K-2, one from grades 3-6 and one from 7-12. Each will receive a $50 gift card and the winning submission from each group will be showcased at the HUC’s Juneteenth celebration on Monday June 19th from 3-5 pm at the Hingham Bathing Beach.

Families, please check your email from Wednesday, May 3rd, for the username and password so you can access the Aspen family portal. Please take a moment to try to login. A reminder that the portal allows families to monitor their student's progress and see their student information. If you did not receive the email, you can email aspenhelp@hinghamschools.org.

Kids in Action (KIA) Before and After-School Programs are for Hingham students in grades K-5. Our curriculum focuses on social and emotional development with support in academic skills through play and guidance.https://hinghamschools.org/academic-programs/kids-in-action9/

FREE LUNCH FOR ALL - This year, due to Federal Assistance, lunch will be served free of charge. This year, there will also be a breakfast program ( also peanut/tree nut free) for students who wish to partake in that. There will be one “grab and go breakfast” offering daily.

VOLUNTEERS - We are happy to have parent volunteers in our school again! As we enter a new school year, all volunteers in the schools (classroom volunteers, field trip chaperones, etc.) will require a new CORI check. Forms can be found in the main office or here
