REMINDER!
Health Reminder: When Should My Student Stay Home?
Your children have been champions in dealing with the high temperatures, and we appreciate their resilience and adaptability during this challenging weather. Staying hydrated is crucial, and we're glad they take this responsibility seriously.
Please continue encouraging your children to stay hydrated and wear appropriate clothing for the weather.
Reminders
Please keep your children home if they are experiencing a fever or vomiting. They can return to school once they have been fever-free for 24 hours without the use of fever-reducing medications such as acetaminophen or Ibuprofen. Students with minor symptoms of illness (runny nose, congestion, headache, etc.) may attend school if they are feeling well enough to do so. Please don't hesitate to contact me if you have any questions regarding illnesses or the appropriateness of attending school.
Thank you again for your support, I wish you and your families a safe and enjoyable weekend.

Meet our new School Counselor
Hi everyone, my name is Mrs. Rachel Silknitter and I am the new School Counselor at Weatherbee! My role is to work with students, families, and school staff to help support the social, emotional, and academic growth of all students. I am excited to join this community and get to know you and the students of Weatherbee!
A little about me:
I grew up in Midcoast Maine, but have lived in the Bangor area for about 8 years now. I graduated from the University of Maine with a B.A. in Psychology and then from Husson University with a Masters in School Counseling. I tend to take a strengths-based approach with students, and I believe that every student can learn and succeed!
My role at Weatherbee:
SEAL: SEAL stands for Social Emotional Academic Learning and is a "specials" class that all students will have with me every 6-day rotation. In this class, we will use the PurposeFull People curriculum from Character Strong to fulfill three major goals: Be Kind, Be Strong, and Be Well. Please see the attached newsletter for more information!
Lunch Bunches: During the year, your student may be invited to a Lunch Bunch with me. These are small lunch groups that will meet in my room every 6-day rotation and have specific goals (e.g. social skill building, getting to know you, emotional regulation, etc.). It's a great way for students to receive more targeted support and maybe even make some new friends! I will send home an "invitation" to those selected students. You are free to opt your student out from this service at any time by emailing me.
One-on-one support and "Let's Talk" mailbox system: I work in close partnership with Mrs. O'Neil, our school social worker, to provide students one-on-one support if they need it. This could be a range of things like taking a 5 minute calming break in my room, meeting with Mrs. O'Neil on a more consistent basis, or filling out a "Let's Talk" paper and dropping it in my mailbox outside my classroom. Students are welcome to fill out this paper (located in their classrooms or directly outside my class) if they would like a check-in from me-- It consists of filling out their name and the size and nature of their problem. I have provided a PDF so you can see what this looks like.
I have already enjoyed these first couple of weeks of school with your students; I can't wait to get to know them (and you!) even more! Please don't hesitate to contact me with any questions or concerns. My email is rsilknitter@rsu22.us
Warmly,
Mrs. Silknitter
