MESSAGE FROM THE SUPERINTENDENT
As we celebrate the new year, efforts continue in our district to improve student achievement and plan for the long-term success of our students, staff, families and community.
Reading, writing, math, and pathways to graduation remain among our district’s top priorities. I am so grateful for the partnerships we continue to build with families, local organizations, and industry leaders to create opportunities for our talented students to grow, learn and find gainful employment in this wonderful community.
With our staff and school leaders focused on these goals, we are also constantly assessing our strategies. As superintendent, I am committed to making sure our district uses its resources effectively for the sake of our entire community. This topic is especially top of mind as our district begins the work of preparing our budget for the 2025-26 school year. Read more.

Preparing for winter weather safety
Winter weather is here and that means it’s time to prepare for potential school delays and closures!
When severe weather is in the forecast, Roseburg School District decides whether to delay or close school based on the following considerations:
the ability to operate school buses safely
the ability of students and parents to drive safely
the ability of students to walk safely
the ability of employees to get to work on time and safely

FROM THE STEAM TEAM: CALLING ALL STEAMOLOGISTS!
Our Elementary School STEAM Team shares the latest updates on science, technology, engineering, arts and math education around the district.
Congratulations to fourth-graders Ajah and Kellan at Hucrest for corralling 16 sheep in our Sheep Coral Competition! They were able to successfully change the structure of their RC car so that it functioned in a different way.
The concepts of Energy and Matter were the focus of our last STEAM lesson. Students engineered a working circuit that lit a light. Our younger students had their picture taken with their circuit and they placed that in a card to give. Our older students placed their working circuits in a card and made it light up!
We will start January off with the concepts of Structure and Function. Students will dive into the ocean depths and compare and contrast the characteristics of the sperm whale and the giant squid. In a battle of whale vs. squid, who would win? You decide.
