NEWS FROM WERNER
Note from the Principal
It's been a great first few days with our students! We saw a lot of students that were happy and connecting with their classmates and teachers. Thanks for all your support and for entrusting us with your children!
As we start up with building routines for the fall, check out the opportunities for Enrichment Clubs that are offered before/after school. You'll see some of the fliers down at the bottom of this newsletter and on our website under Enrichment Programs. Our website is being updated as we get more information from our clubs.
Have a great weekend with your family!
Best,
Hayden Camp
Principal
WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
- New Family Orientation- If you are new to Werner, come join us in the Flex Room after school starts on Monday, August 19. You'll have a chance to meet other families and hear more about Werner.
- New Schedule- Our revised schedule is up above. If your child needs before/after school care, check out AlphaBEST.
- Back-to-School Nights- Please mark on your calendars the upcoming Back-to-School Orientation nights coming up for your child's classroom. These are important times to connect with your child's teacher and hear more about their classroom.
- ParentVUE and Code of Conduct- Please check in on ParentVUE and update any student/family information if you haven't already. When you go on to ParentVUE, you'll also need to acknowledge you have received the Code of Conduct for this school year. See more information below.
- New Fencing- You will see some temporary fencing up on the southwest corner of our building. We need to add this for safety of our new preschool. More permanent fencing will be up in the coming months. We will be able to unlock the gate before/after school for our community to access. Thanks for your patience in this transition.
Student Data Verification
At the beginning of every school year, we ask parents to review and update their student and family information online through ParentVUE.
Family Data Verification is a feature within ParentVUE that allows parents and guardians with active students to update their students’ demographic, health, parent contact information, emergency contact information, and upload documents to submit to their students’ school.
Once logged into ParentVUE, click on the Online Registration / Data Verification tab on the top right-hand corner of the screen and select the 2024-2025 Current Student and Family Data Verification process from the drop-down menu. Please review and update the information and finish by submitting your student’s data verification.
Code of Conduct
Each year, we ask our parents/guardians to provide a digital acknowledgment after reviewing the updated Student Rights and Code of Conduct, which is a compilation of rules, policies, and regulations regarding student behavior.
The 2024-25 Code of Conduct is now available on the PSD website in multiple languages.
Steps to complete your digital acknowledgment:
Parents/guardians -
Log into the ParentVUE parent portal.
Read the Acknowledgement text box.
Click on the link at the bottom of the page to download the 2024-2025 Code of Conduct.
Write your name on the signature field exactly as it appears on your ParentVUE account.
Click “Yes.”
Parents/guardians will not be given access to ParentVUE until they electronically sign the acknowledgment.
Families new to PSD or those who have never accessed their ParentVUE account will receive a separate email with instructions for how to log into ParentVUE.
If you have questions regarding ParentVUE or StudentVUE, see the ParentVUE FAQ or contact our main office (970-488-5550).
Farewell to Ms. Jenny
We are sad to share that our secretary/health tech, Jenny Whetsell, has taken a position with PSD's Records Department and will be leaving us after August 16. She has been working on helping our new secretary, Katie Salter, transition into the role. Jenny started at Werner as a parent and volunteer in 2010 and has worked in our kitchen, paraprofessional, and secretary for the last 12 years. We will miss Ms. Jenny's welcoming smile, witty humor, and her ability to manage our busy front office. Best wishes our your new adventure Ms. Jenny!
New Staff
Stephanie Hahn-Preschool Teacher
My name is Stephanie Hahn, and I am so excited to start up our early childhood program at Werner this year! This will be my 19th year as an early childhood special education teacher. I taught for 10 years in Illinois before moving to Colorado with my family. I have also taught in Poudre School District at Irish Elementary and Kruse Elementary in our preschool program, and for the last five years have served as our Early Childhood Disabilities Specialist. I am so excited to get back into the classroom and work directly with students again! When I am not working, I enjoy spending time outside walking my dog, hiking, biking, and snowboarding with my husband and kids.
Sheila Griffith- Preschool Para
I am Sheila Griffith, an Early Childhood full-day Para. I will be working with Stephanie Hahn this year in the new Early Childhood classroom. I have been working for PSD for five years as an E.C. Para and have taught pre-K and first grade, and been a kindergarten para as well. I lived in Alaska for 26 years prior to moving back to Colorado, where I grew up. I am passionate about mountains, gardening, and wildflowers. Last year around time, I spent a week trekking in the Himalayas with my husband and two daughters.
Haley Ramers Wells-Counselor (Fridays)
My name is Hayley Wells, and I will be part of our school counseling team this year at Werner. I am finishing my master's in school counseling in December. I am married and have three kids: Madeleine, 22; Chesley, 19; and Griffyn, 5. I enjoy spending time with my family, traveling, and being a mom.
Fun fact about me is that I love watching/listening/reading true crime stories.
Kirsten Vaillancourt-Mental Health Specialist
I'm Kirsten Vaillancourt, Werner's Mental Health Specialist. I've been an elementary school counselor for the past ten years and I'm so excited to be in this role, supporting mental health for students at Werner. I love taco bell, board games, and I have a wild, cute, perfect dog. I can't wait to work together!
Kayla Christen-Student Teacher (Kindergarten-Mrs. CB)
My name is Kayla Christen and I am so excited to be back at Werner! I grew up here in Fort Collins and attended Werner Elementary from kindergarten through fifth grade. I’m currently completing my student teaching through Grand Canyon University as I finalize my bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education. In my free time, I enjoy shopping, getting up to the mountains, and spending time with family and friends.
School Lunch and Fee Payment Information
Paying for school fees and/or lunches is easy using SchoolPay. Below is the link for signing your student up, paying fees and/or adding funds to your student’s meal account.
PSD offers an easy and secure way to make payments to your child’s school on-line with a credit/debit card for fees and other charges as well as your child’s meal account through the District’s payment portal, SchoolPay.* The Pay Fees/Charges web page has information and instructions on paying fees and other charges online or go directly to the SchoolPay website.
Fees may also be paid in person at your child's school, paying with cash or check.
2024-2025 Werner Photo Album
Throughout the year, we ask our community for photos that could be used for our yearbook and/or social media. This relates to school events only (e.g. classroom parties, field trips, school events, spirit days and enrichment opportunities). You can upload pictures to our 2024-2025 Werner Photo Album throughout the year. Please be mindful to not include photos of students that may not have permission.
NEWS FROM WERNER PTA
Dear Werner Wildcats Families,
Welcome back to another exciting school year at Werner Elementary! We hope you all had a wonderful and restful summer break. As we prepare for the new school year, we want to extend a warm welcome to both returning families and those who are new to our school community.
The Werner Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) plays a crucial role in supporting our school, teachers, and most importantly, our students. We are dedicated to fostering a positive and enriching environment where every child can thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.
**Why Join the PTA?**
The PTA is a vital part of our school community, and your involvement makes a difference. By joining the PTA, you have the opportunity to:
- Stay Informed: Receive updates on school events, activities, and important news.
- Connect: Build relationships with other parents, teachers, and staff members.
- Help fundraise for essential programs, events, and supplies that enhance our children’s education.
- Share ideas and provide feedback on how we can continue to improve our school community.
**Volunteer Opportunities**
We encourage all parents to get involved with the PTA. Whether you have a little time to spare or are looking for a more substantial role, there are many ways you can contribute:
- Event Planning: Assist with organizing and coordinating school events and fundraisers.
- Committee Participation: Join one of our committees focused on areas such as fundraising, community outreach, or hospitality.
- Leadership Roles: Consider serving on the PTA board or as a committee chair. We currently have open positions and would love to have enthusiastic individuals join our team.
**How to Get Involved**
If you are interested in volunteering or learning more about how you can contribute to the PTA, please attend our upcoming PTA meeting on September 10th. This will be a great opportunity to meet other parents, hear about our plans for the year ahead, and find out more about open positions.
We are excited about the possibilities this school year holds and look forward to working together to make it a memorable and successful year for all Werner Wildcats. Thank you for your continued support, and we can’t wait to see you at our upcoming events!
Sincerely,
Werner PTA

NEWS FROM PSD
Cell Phone Policy Update
Aug. 12, 2024
Dear PSD community:
Cell phones, headphones, and other electronic accessories can be amazing resources, but they can also be a major distraction. Social media apps found on electronic devices can harm students’ mental health, exposing them to cyberbullying, hate-based content, false information, and content that may cause them to feel bad about their bodies or socioeconomic status – all available in an easy-to-access format that can feel hard to escape.
Classrooms work best when students disconnect from social media and personal devices and connect with their classmates, their teachers, and learning. To help make that possible, PSD schools will enforce policies requiring preschool through eighth-grade students to store cell phones, headphones, and all other electronic accessories out of sight and on silent at school unless they have permission from an administrator/designee or it's written into their IEP, 504, or HCAP. This will help students focus on curriculum and ensure classrooms offer a phone-free and social media-free learning environment.
Sincerely,
Poudre School District
Volunteers are needed across Poudre School District to support our Teachers & Students!
PSD sends frequent emails to currently registered volunteers, but those are getting lost in some recipients' junk mail folders. If you are registered as a volunteer with PSD, please check your junk mail & mark those sent by "Volunteer Coordinator" as safe to receive.
For those who are not yet registered to volunteer but want to help in our schools please visit - Volunteer Registration
PSD Now Newsletter
One of many ways information is shared is through the PSD Now community newsletter, which features timely information about the latest happenings in the district. This is emailed to families and interested community members about every other Thursday.
