All About Distinguishing Between Fact & Opinion
Learning to distinguish between fact and opinion can serve students for a lifetime and in all aspects of life, as they analyze information and select reliable sources both in and out of school in order to research topics that are important to them.
-A fact is a statement that can be verified. It relies on observation, research, and data.
-An opinion is an expression or belief about something. It is based on assumptions that cannot be proven and reflect somebody's views, beliefs, personal perspectives, or values.
Keywords to look for when identifying information the is a fact could be:
-The research confirms…
-According to…
-The doctors, scientists, etc. recently discovered…
The source of the fact has to be credible and resources should be provided!
Keywords to look for when identifying information the is an opinion could be:
-I think
-I believe
-I feel,
-In my opinion
-Some people think
-Some people claim
-He/She/They claim(s)
Opinions cannot be verified!
2023-2024 School Year... Placement and Student Supply Lists
Parents are encouraged to check the school website often for the most up-to-date information regarding the new school year. In late August, parents will be notified of when they will be able to log in to the Genesis Parent Portal to complete the required back-to-school forms. Completion of the forms in the portal is required in order to obtain your child's teacher placement and class for the 2023-2024 school year.
Please note that all 2023-2024 Student Supply Lists are posted HERE on our school website. The supply lists are specific to each grade level that your child is entering into. If you are aware of any family that may be in need of financial assistance to purchase school supplies, please don’t hesitate to contact the main office.
